Chapter Nine The caravan halted, and the medical crew rushed in to stabilize Sergei before transporting him to the medical ward. Valentina watched with a strange sort of detachment as though she weren’t really in her body. She’d seen countless injuries and had doctored more than a few, but the sight of Sergei like this evoked a powerful, primal reaction within her. Ariana was leaning over him, doing something with her hands, but Valentina couldn’t see anything except for a strange shimmer appearing in the surrounding air.
