6 CHEYENNE The blackout swallows the interior of the bright, warm lodge, leaving only the swirling gray brilliance of the storm washing over everything. I freeze, and Darren’s arms engulf me protectively again. Small emergency lights flick on over the doorways, and somewhere in the basement, a backup generator rumbles to life. We both wait, listening, hanging on to each other. His hand cups the back of my neck and his heart pounds against my cheek.
