INT. RECORDS CHAMBER – CONTINUOUS
No one spoke.
Grant's words hung in the air.
"Your brother... is alive."
Maya stared at him, unable to process what she had just heard.
"You're lying."
Grant didn't answer immediately.
Instead, he placed the old photograph on the table.
"I knew you wouldn't believe me."
Jordan stepped beside Maya.
"Then prove it."
Grant slowly reached into his coat and removed a sealed envelope.
Across the front were the words:
THOMPSON FAMILY – PRIVATE
Maya's hands trembled as she accepted it.
INT. RECORDS CHAMBER – MOMENTS LATER
Inside the envelope was a faded birth certificate.
Maya scanned the page.
It listed her parents' names.
Then another entry caught her eye.
Child: Caleb Thompson
Date of Birth: May 14
She looked again.
There, several years later, was her own name.
Child: Maya Thompson
Her heart raced.
"This... this can't be real."
Mr. Ellis examined the document.
"The seal is authentic."
Emma whispered,
"You really have a brother."
INT. RECORDS CHAMBER – CONTINUOUS
Maya looked at Grant.
"If I have a brother... where is he?"
Grant lowered his eyes.
"I don't know."
"You just said he's alive."
"I said that's what the Director believes."
Jordan frowned.
"So even you don't know?"
Grant shook his head.
"The last confirmed record of Caleb disappeared from every file twelve years ago."
Evelyn stepped toward one of the shelves.
"Not every file."
She reached behind a row of journals and pulled out a tiny metal box.
Inside was a photograph.
It showed two children playing in a park.
A young Maya—only a toddler.
And beside her...
An older boy with dark hair, smiling at the camera.
Caleb.
Maya felt tears well up.
"I... I don't remember him."
Evelyn spoke gently.
"You were very young."
INT. RECORDS CHAMBER – LATER
Jordan unfolded the map of the underground passages.
"If Caleb disappeared..."
"...maybe he found the First Hallway."
Grant studied the map.
"No."
"He vanished years before Noah ever discovered these tunnels."
Emma looked confused.
"Then why would the Director think he's alive?"
Grant answered quietly.
"Because someone has been leaving messages."
Maya's eyes widened.
"The anonymous notes?"
Grant nodded.
"They started years before you arrived at Westbrook."
Mr. Ellis looked at Maya.
"What if..."
"...they weren't meant for you at first?"
The room fell silent.
Maya slowly looked at the photograph of Caleb.
"What if they were meant for him?"
INT. RECORDS CHAMBER – CONTINUOUS
Suddenly—
A loud alarm echoed through the chamber.
Red lights flashed.
Evelyn looked toward the ceiling.
"Someone triggered the security seals."
Grant's expression darkened.
"We've been found."
The heavy wooden door shook violently.
BANG!
A second impact.
BANG!
Dust drifted from the ceiling.
Jordan grabbed Noah's notebook.
"We need another exit."
Evelyn hurried to a bookshelf and pulled a hidden lever.
Nothing happened.
She pulled it again.
Still nothing.
"It's jammed."
Grant stepped forward.
"I'll hold the door."
"No!" Maya protested.
"You'll be trapped."
Grant gave a tired smile.
"I've spent years making difficult choices."
"This will be one more."
INT. SECRET ESCAPE TUNNEL
Mr. Ellis finally forced the hidden passage open.
A narrow stone staircase appeared.
Evelyn turned to Maya.
"Go."
"But Grant—"
"He knows what he's doing."
Reluctantly, Maya, Jordan, Emma, and Mr. Ellis entered the tunnel.
Just before the hidden door closed, Maya looked back.
Grant was standing alone before the chamber door.
The pounding stopped.
Silence.
Then a familiar voice echoed from the other side.
Not the Mimic.
Not the Director.
A voice Maya had heard only once before.
The Caretaker.
"Grant."
The voice was calm.
"You've protected them long enough."
Grant frowned.
"You're not the Caretaker."
The voice laughed softly.
"No."
"I never was."
Maya's heart froze.
If the voice wasn't the Caretaker...
Then who had they really met beneath the bell?
The hidden door slammed shut before anyone could answer.
The tunnel fell silent.
