Jordan couldn't breathe.
The boy standing twenty feet away wore his face.
The same messy brown hair.
The same blue school jacket.
The same scar above his left eyebrow from the bicycle accident he'd had when he was thirteen.
Even the same frightened expression.
Emma's flashlight trembled in her hand as she pointed it toward the stranger.
"What... is that?"
No one answered.
The second Jordan smiled.
The real Jordan didn't.
"I've been waiting for this," the stranger said, his voice identical to Jordan's.
"It took you longer than expected."
The real Jordan stepped forward.
"Who are you?"
The stranger tilted his head.
"A better question would be..."
"...which one of us is real?"
A cold wave swept through the hallway.
Every mirror lining the walls rattled violently.
Tiny cracks spread across the glass, each one making a sound like distant whispers.
Maya grabbed Jordan's arm before he could move closer.
"Don't."
"What if he knows something?"
"What if he's trying to get you closer?"
The Director slowly reached inside his coat and removed a small silver compass.
Its needle spun wildly.
"It only does this in one place."
Grant frowned.
"The Hallway?"
The Director nodded.
"No..."
"When the hallway is creating a replacement."
Emma looked from one Jordan to the other.
"You mean..."
The Director's voice was barely above a whisper.
"The hallway copies people."
Silence fell.
Jordan laughed nervously.
"That's impossible."
The copy smiled.
"So was a school built over a secret buried beneath the earth."
The words echoed through the corridor.
For the first time, Jordan had no reply.
The copy began walking toward them.
Not quickly.
Not threateningly.
Each step echoed with eerie precision.
Tap.
Tap.
Tap.
When he stopped, only a few feet separated the two Jordans.
The copy looked directly into Jordan's eyes.
"Do you remember the lake?"
Jordan's face changed.
"What?"
"The summer you almost drowned."
Maya looked at him.
"You never told us that."
Jordan swallowed.
"I... never told anyone."
The copy continued.
"You slipped from the old bridge."
"You couldn't swim."
"You screamed for help."
He smiled sadly.
"But no one came."
Jordan's breathing became uneven.
"Stop."
The copy ignored him.
"You've blamed yourself ever since."
"You still dream about the water."
Emma stared at Jordan.
"Is that true?"
Jordan looked away.
"Yes."
The hallway had revealed a secret even Maya didn't know.
The Director stepped forward.
"Enough."
The copy turned toward him.
"And what about your secrets?"
The smile disappeared.
"You've buried yours much deeper."
The mirrors exploded.
Glass rained across the stone floor.
Inside every broken mirror, new reflections appeared.
Not reflections of the group...
But scenes.
One showed the school burning beneath a blood-red sky.
Another showed Emma standing alone beside the masked figures.
Another showed Grant lying motionless on the floor.
Then Maya saw one that froze her heart.
She was standing in front of Westbrook High.
Her hands were covered in blood.
Jordan lay at her feet.
His eyes closed.
She dropped to her knees.
"No..."
She looked away.
When she looked back...
The vision was gone.
Only her frightened reflection remained.
A low rumble echoed through the corridor.
The floor shook beneath their feet.
Dust drifted from the ceiling.
Grant looked ahead.
"The hallway's changing."
The walls slowly began to move.
Stone scraped against stone.
Passages closed.
New ones opened.
The Hallway of Lies wasn't a hallway anymore.
It was becoming a maze.
"We have to keep moving!" Grant shouted.
The group ran.
Behind them, the copy of Jordan never chased them.
He simply watched.
Then he spoke one final sentence.
"You can escape me..."
"...but you can't escape yourselves."
The maze twisted in every direction.
Left.
Right.
Another right.
Then a dead end.
Emma slammed her fist against the wall.
"We're trapped!"
Maya shone her flashlight upward.
Something had been carved into the stone.
It wasn't old.
The words looked fresh.
As if someone had written them only minutes before.
She brushed away the dust and read aloud.
If you're reading this... you're already being followed.
A chill ran through the group.
Jordan slowly turned around.
"There are only five of us."
No one answered.
Maya counted.
One.
Two.
Three.
Four.
Five.
Then...
A sixth shadow stretched across the floor.
It didn't belong to any of them.
The shadow moved.
Slowly.
Deliberately.
But whoever was casting it...
...was nowhere to be seen.
The hallway lights flickered once.
Twice.
Then every light went out.
In the darkness, something whispered only inches from Maya's ear.
"Don't turn around."
