FADE IN:
EXT. WESTBROOK HIGH – SUNSET
The photograph remained on Maya's phone.
The mysterious woman stood beside a young Caleb.
Her face was hidden by shadow.
Around her neck hung the silver locket now resting in Maya's pocket.
Jordan looked at the image again.
"We've seen that locket before."
Maya nodded.
"It belonged to Mara."
Mr. Ellis looked thoughtful.
"Or perhaps... Mara inherited it from someone else."
Emma pointed toward the background of the photograph.
"Wait."
"Zoom in."
Maya enlarged the image.
In the distance stood an old stone chapel.
Its stained-glass windows formed the shape of a bell.
Across the entrance was a faded sign:
St. Alden's Chapel
Mr. Ellis stared at the screen.
"I thought that place was demolished years ago."
INT. SCHOOL LIBRARY – EVENING
The group searched through shelves of local history books.
Jordan finally found an old town map.
"There!"
He pointed to a wooded area outside the town limits.
"St. Alden's Chapel."
Emma frowned.
"But the map says it closed decades ago."
Mr. Ellis carefully turned the page.
Tucked inside the book was a yellowed newspaper clipping.
The headline read:
Historic Chapel Destroyed by Fire
The article claimed the building had burned to the ground twenty-five years earlier.
Maya looked back at the photograph.
"Then why is it standing in this picture?"
Grant, who had quietly joined them, answered.
"Because the official story isn't always the true one."
EXT. ROAD TO ST. ALDEN'S – NIGHT
The group followed an overgrown path through thick trees.
Branches scraped against their jackets.
The deeper they walked, the quieter the forest became.
After nearly twenty minutes, Emma stopped.
"There..."
Moonlight shone through the trees.
A stone bell tower rose above the branches.
Jordan smiled in disbelief.
"The chapel wasn't destroyed."
"It was hidden."
As they reached the clearing, Maya noticed something carved into the old wooden door.
A bell.
Exactly like the one beneath Westbrook High.
INT. ST. ALDEN'S CHAPEL
The heavy door creaked open.
Dust floated through the moonlight.
Broken pews lined the room.
The stained-glass windows were cracked but still beautiful.
At the front of the chapel stood a stone altar.
Resting on it...
...was a small projector.
Beside it lay a handwritten note.
For Maya.
She pressed the projector's power button.
A film flickered to life against the far wall.
An old recording appeared.
The mysterious woman from the photograph stepped into view.
This time, her face was clearly visible.
She looked directly into the camera.
"My name is Professor Evelyn Cross."
Everyone gasped.
Jordan looked at Evelyn.
"The Silent Witness?"
Evelyn slowly lowered her head.
"Yes."
The younger woman on the screen continued.
"If you're watching this..."
"...then my plan failed."
Maya stared at Evelyn.
"You knew."
Evelyn's eyes filled with tears.
"I hoped you would never have to see this."
INT. ST. ALDEN'S CHAPEL – CONTINUOUS
The recording continued.
Young Evelyn stood beside Mara Thompson.
Mara smiled at the camera.
"If Maya ever sees this..."
"...tell her none of this was her fault."
Maya felt tears running down her face.
Mara looked down at something she was holding.
A baby wrapped in a blanket.
She gently lifted the blanket just enough for the camera to see.
Jordan whispered,
"Is that...?"
Maya's heart pounded.
The baby's tiny bracelet came into view.
It read:
MAYA THOMPSON
Maya's knees nearly gave way.
"That's me..."
The room fell silent.
Young Evelyn looked into the camera one last time.
"We hid Maya because someone wanted the Thompson family to disappear."
"But we couldn't save everyone."
The film suddenly distorted.
Static filled the wall.
Then a final image appeared.
A group of people standing together.
The Founder.
Mara.
Young Evelyn.
The Keeper.
And one more person whose face had been deliberately torn from the photograph.
Before anyone could study it, the projector shut off.
The chapel lights flickered.
Outside...
BONG!
The ancient clocktower bell echoed across the night.
The fourth bell had rung.
Maya closed her eyes.
"We're too late."
Far away, beneath Westbrook High, unseen gears began to turn.
The countdown had entered its final stage.
