The Keeper

The weak voice echoed from behind the steel door. "...Help me..." Jordan's eyes filled with hope. "Maya... that's Noah." Maya listened carefully. It sounded exactly like the voice from Noah's cassette recordings. She stepped toward the door. "Noah? Can you hear us?" Silence. Then another faint reply. "...Don't... let... him..." The voice cut off. Jordan began pounding on the steel door. "Noah!" "Open the door!" "There has to be another way in!" Mr. Ellis pulled him back. "Jordan." "No!" "If my brother is in there, I'm not leaving!" Mr. Ellis lowered his voice. "If that's really Noah... rushing in is exactly what whoever set this trap wants." Jordan reluctantly stepped away, though his hands were still shaking. INT. HALLWAY – CONTINUOUS Maya examined the steel door. No handle. No hinges. Only a small circular slot near the center. She reached into her pocket. The old brass key Mr. Ellis had given her weeks earlier. "The maintenance key..." She inserted it into the slot. It fit perfectly. CLICK. The steel door slowly slid open. A rush of cold air escaped from the darkness beyond. Jordan didn't wait. He switched on his flashlight and stepped inside. "Maya, stay close." INT. THE OBSERVATION ROOM The room was unlike anything they had seen before. It was long and narrow, with concrete walls. Old television monitors covered one side. Most were broken. A few still flickered with static. On the opposite wall hung dozens of photographs. Students. Teachers. Parents. Years of lives had been documented. Emma stared in disbelief. "They've been watching everyone." Maya walked toward the monitors. One suddenly switched on. It showed a live feed of the hallway outside. Another showed the library. A third showed the principal's office. Jordan whispered, "This whole school is under surveillance." At the center of the room stood a wooden desk. Covered in dust. On top rested a tape recorder. Beside it was a note. In Noah's handwriting. If you're here, don't trust the voices. Maya frowned. "The voices?" Jordan reached for the tape recorder. Before he pressed play, Mr. Ellis stopped him. "Read the rest." Jordan turned the note over. On the back was another sentence. They can make you hear what you want to hear. The room fell silent. Maya slowly looked back at the steel door. "If that's true..." She swallowed. "...then the voice calling for help..." Jordan finished the thought. "...might not have been Noah." Suddenly— One of the monitors came to life. Then another. Then another. Every screen displayed Noah Reed. He was standing in the Observation Room. Looking directly into the camera. "This recording is for anyone who finds this place," Noah said. "If you're seeing me..." "...I've already disappeared." Jordan stepped closer to the screen. "Noah..." Noah continued. "The Director doesn't just hide evidence." "He creates it." "He wants you to question everything..." "...until you stop trusting your own mind." Maya remembered every whisper. Every anonymous message. Every mysterious voice. Had some of them been real? Or carefully planned? Noah looked into the camera one last time. "If you're with Maya..." "...tell her she was chosen for a reason." Maya's heart skipped a beat. The recording suddenly distorted. Static filled the screen. Noah's face disappeared. In its place appeared a live video feed. Someone wearing a black hood was standing in the hallway outside the Observation Room. The figure slowly removed one glove. Then placed a small black envelope on the floor. Without another movement... The hooded figure walked away. Jordan rushed out into the hallway. The corridor was empty. Only the envelope remained. He picked it up and handed it to Maya. Across the front were six handwritten words: The architect wasn't the first builder. Maya opened it. Inside was an old photograph of Westbrook High. But it wasn't Westbrook High. It was a different building standing on the same land—older, larger, and surrounded by iron gates. Written on the back was a date: October 12, 1898 And beneath it, one chilling sentence: Westbrook High was built on something that was never meant to be found. Maya looked up from the photograph. "This mystery..." She whispered. "...started long before the school." To be continued in Episode 5 – Part 4...
