FADE IN:
INT. OBSERVATION ROOM – CONTINUOUS
The monitor went black.
No one spoke.
Emma looked from Maya to Jordan.
"Why is everyone staring at me?"
Jordan quickly shook his head.
"It could be another trick."
Emma crossed her arms.
"Could be?"
Maya took a slow breath.
"The Director has manipulated us before. We can't assume every message is true."
Emma's expression softened, but she still looked hurt.
"So... you don't trust me anymore?"
"I trust you," Maya replied quietly.
"But I don't trust whoever keeps sending these messages."
Emma nodded, though the doubt in her eyes remained.
EXT. WESTBROOK HIGH – NIGHT
The four of them slipped out of the hidden Observation Room and crossed the quiet campus.
Rain began to fall.
The old clocktower loomed over them.
For a brief moment, Maya thought she saw someone standing at the top.
She blinked.
The figure was gone.
Jordan noticed her looking.
"What is it?"
"I thought someone was watching us."
Mr. Ellis looked toward the tower.
"They usually are."
INT. SCHOOL ARCHIVES – LATER THAT NIGHT
Using Mr. Ellis's maintenance key, they entered the archive room again.
Maya spread the ancient map across a large wooden table.
"There," she said, pointing to the center.
"The First Hallway."
Emma leaned closer.
"It says the entrance is beneath the courtyard fountain."
Jordan frowned.
"But the fountain's been sealed for years."
Mr. Ellis nodded.
"Officially, because of structural damage."
He paused.
"Unofficially... I think someone wanted people to stop looking."
EXT. COURTYARD FOUNTAIN – MIDNIGHT
The rain had stopped.
Moonlight reflected off the cracked stone fountain.
Maya brushed away wet leaves from the base.
She found a small carving of a bell.
Beside it was a circular depression.
"The brass bell clapper," she whispered.
She removed the old clapper from her backpack and placed it into the depression.
For a moment...
Nothing happened.
Then—
RUMBLE...
The ground trembled.
The fountain slowly slid to one side, revealing a spiral staircase descending into darkness.
Cold air rose from below.
Jordan smiled nervously.
"I guess we found it."
INT. THE FIRST HALLWAY
Their flashlights cut through the darkness.
Unlike the maintenance tunnels, these walls were made of smooth black stone.
Ancient symbols were carved into the ceiling.
The passage was silent.
Too silent.
As they walked deeper, they reached a massive circular door.
There was no handle.
Only an inscription:
ONLY THOSE WHO SEEK THE TRUTH MAY ENTER.
Before anyone could examine it further—
A lantern suddenly lit on the other side of the room.
An elderly man stepped into its glow.
He wore a long gray coat and carried a carved wooden staff.
His white beard reached nearly to his chest.
His sharp eyes studied each of them.
"So," he said calmly.
"You've finally arrived."
Mr. Ellis's face turned pale.
"The Keeper..."
The old man nodded.
"I've been expecting you."
Maya stepped forward.
"Are you with the Director?"
The Keeper smiled faintly.
"No."
"I've been keeping the Director out."
Silence filled the chamber.
Jordan looked confused.
"Then why hide all this?"
The Keeper rested both hands on his staff.
"Because some truths protect people."
"And some truths destroy them."
INT. THE FIRST HALLWAY – CONTINUOUS
The Keeper looked directly at Maya.
"You carry the Headmaster's journal."
She nodded.
"And Noah's notebook."
Jordan tightened his grip.
The Keeper sighed.
"Then you've inherited more than clues."
He tapped his staff gently against the stone floor.
A hidden compartment opened beside the circular door.
Inside rested a small wooden box.
The Keeper handed it to Maya.
"This belonged to Mara Thompson."
Maya's hands trembled.
She slowly opened the lid.
Inside was a silver locket.
She pressed the catch.
The locket opened.
Inside were two tiny photographs.
One was Mara.
The other made Maya stop breathing.
It was Noah.
Jordan stared in disbelief.
"How...?"
"Noah lived sixteen years after Mara disappeared," he whispered.
"They couldn't have taken this picture together."
The Keeper looked down at the locket, his expression filled with sadness.
"They didn't."
Maya looked up.
"What do you mean?"
The Keeper took a slow breath.
"Mara left the empty side of the locket behind."
He looked at Jordan.
"Noah placed his picture there years later."
Jordan frowned.
"So... they never met."
"No."
"But they were connected by the same search."
Before Maya could ask another question, the ancient circular door behind the Keeper began to open with a deafening grind.
A cold wind rushed from the darkness beyond.
The Keeper's calm expression vanished.
He whispered only three words:
"He's early..."
Heavy footsteps echoed from inside the chamber.
One...
Two...
Three...
A silhouette emerged from the darkness.
It wasn't Vice Principal Grant.
It wasn't the Caretaker.
It wasn't anyone Maya had ever seen before.
The stranger wore a long black coat, leather gloves, and a silver ring engraved with the school crest.
They removed their hood.
Maya gasped.
The stranger smiled.
"Welcome," they said.
"I've been waiting for you."
