FADE IN:
INT. THE FIRST HALLWAY – CONTINUOUS
The ancient stone door groaned to a stop.
Silence filled the chamber.
The stranger stepped into the lantern light.
He wore a long black coat, polished black shoes, and a silver ring engraved with the crest of Westbrook High.
His face was calm.
His eyes never left Maya.
He smiled.
"Welcome."
"I've been waiting for you."
Maya instinctively stepped back.
Jordan moved beside her.
"Are you... the Director?"
The man tilted his head.
"That's what some people call me."
The Keeper tightened his grip on his wooden staff.
"You shouldn't be here."
The stranger looked at him with quiet respect.
"And yet... here I am."
INT. THE FIRST HALLWAY – CONTINUOUS
The Director slowly walked around the chamber, studying the old carvings on the walls.
"You've come farther than Noah."
Jordan's jaw tightened.
"You knew my brother."
"I did."
"What did you do to him?"
The Director stopped walking.
"For years, everyone has asked me that question."
He turned to Jordan.
"No one has ever asked what Noah discovered."
Jordan glared at him.
"Then tell us."
The Director looked toward the ancient stone door.
"No."
"Not yet."
INT. THE FIRST HALLWAY – MOMENTS LATER
Maya reached into her backpack and held up the Headmaster's journal.
"You've been hiding the truth."
The Director looked at the journal without surprise.
"I've been protecting it."
"Protecting who?"
"You."
Maya laughed bitterly.
"You expect me to believe that?"
"I don't expect you to believe anything."
He folded his hands.
"I expect you to keep asking questions."
The Keeper frowned.
"Don't listen to him."
The Director smiled faintly.
"Interesting."
"You've spent years telling them only half the story."
The Keeper's face hardened.
"And you've spent years burying the other half."
INT. THE FIRST HALLWAY – CONTINUOUS
The tension between the two men was unmistakable.
Maya looked from one to the other.
"Which one of you is lying?"
Neither answered.
Instead, the Director asked a question of his own.
"Maya..."
"How many anonymous notes have you received?"
She hesitated.
"I've lost count."
"And how many did I send?"
She frowned.
"What?"
"I didn't send any of them."
Jordan looked confused.
"Then who did?"
The Director slowly turned toward the dark passage behind him.
"There is another player in this story."
"Someone who has stayed hidden..."
"...even from me."
INT. THE FIRST HALLWAY – THE ARCHIVE CHAMBER
The Director walked to an ancient stone table.
Resting on it was a dusty wooden box sealed with black wax.
He broke the seal.
Inside was a bundle of old letters.
He handed the top letter to Maya.
"It's addressed to you."
Maya looked at the faded envelope.
Across the front, written in neat handwriting, were the words:
For Maya Thompson — Open Only When You Reach the First Hallway.
Her breath caught.
"Who wrote this?"
The Director answered quietly.
"I don't know."
"But it was left here sixteen years ago."
Jordan stared.
"That's impossible."
"So is almost everything beneath this school."
Maya slowly opened the envelope.
Inside was a handwritten letter.
The final line made her hands tremble.
If you've reached this place, it means I couldn't protect you any longer.
Don't trust the Director... but don't make the mistake of believing he's your greatest enemy.
There was no signature.
Only a small drawing of a bell.
INT. THE FIRST HALLWAY – CONTINUOUS
Before anyone could speak—
A loud BANG!
echoed from somewhere deep within the tunnels.
Then another.
The lanterns flickered wildly.
The Keeper's expression changed instantly.
"No..."
The Director looked toward the darkness.
"They found the entrance."
Jordan listened carefully.
Heavy footsteps.
More than one person.
Coming fast.
The Keeper struck the floor with his staff.
A section of the wall slid open.
"Go!"
Maya hesitated.
"What about you?"
The Keeper looked at the Director.
"We'll hold them here."
The Director gave a small nod.
"For once..."
"...we're on the same side."
Maya, Jordan, Mr. Ellis, and Emma hurried into the hidden passage.
As the stone door began to close, Maya looked back one last time.
The Keeper and the Director stood shoulder to shoulder, facing the advancing shadows.
A voice echoed through the tunnel.
Cold.
Confident.
"You've protected the secret long enough."
Then the stone door slammed shut.
The passage plunged into silence.
Maya clutched the mysterious letter to her chest.
Whoever had written it had known she would reach this place.
And whoever was coming after the Director...
...might be the most dangerous person they had faced yet.
