The Silent Witnesses

FADE IN: INT. HIDDEN PASSAGE – CONTINUOUS The stone door slammed shut behind them. BOOM! The echo rolled through the narrow tunnel. For a few moments, no one moved. Only the sound of hurried breathing broke the silence. Jordan looked back at the sealed entrance. "We can't just leave them." Mr. Ellis shook his head. "The Keeper knew exactly what he was doing." Emma glanced at Maya. "What did the letter say?" Maya hesitated. She unfolded it again and read the last lines aloud. Don't trust the Director... but don't make the mistake of believing he's your greatest enemy. Emma frowned. "Then who is?" Maya quietly folded the letter. "That's what we have to find out." INT. THE HIDDEN PASSAGE – LATER The tunnel stretched beneath the school like a maze. Ancient lantern hooks lined the walls, though none still held lights. Jordan stopped suddenly. "Listen." Everyone froze. At first... Nothing. Then... Soft footsteps. Not behind them. Ahead. Someone else was in the tunnel. Mr. Ellis lowered his voice. "Turn off your flashlights." Darkness swallowed them. The footsteps grew closer. Slow. Steady. A beam of light swept across the tunnel wall. Someone carrying a lantern was approaching. INT. THE CROSSROADS The stranger stepped into view. It wasn't a student. It wasn't a teacher. It was an elderly woman wearing a dark blue coat and carrying a brass lantern. Silver hair framed her face. When she saw Maya, she smiled sadly. "So..." "You finally made it." Maya blinked. "You know me?" "I've known about you for years." Jordan stepped forward. "Who are you?" The woman bowed her head slightly. "My name is Evelyn." "I keep the records no one else is allowed to see." Mr. Ellis's eyes widened. "The Silent Witness..." The woman nodded. "I haven't heard that name in a long time." INT. THE RECORDS CHAMBER Evelyn led them into a circular room carved from stone. Shelves stretched from floor to ceiling. Hundreds of journals, ledgers, and locked boxes filled the room. "This is where the real history of Westbrook is kept," Evelyn said. "Not the history people are taught." She placed her lantern on a wooden table. "Every promise." "Every lie." "Every disappearance." "It's all here." Emma slowly turned in a circle. "This place is incredible." Evelyn looked at her kindly. "It is also dangerous." INT. THE RECORDS CHAMBER – MOMENTS LATER Evelyn removed a thick ledger from the shelf. She opened it to a page marked with a faded ribbon. At the top of the page were two names. Mara Thompson Noah Reed Jordan leaned in. "They're on the same page." Evelyn nodded. "Because they uncovered the same truth." Maya frowned. "But they lived years apart." "They never met." "No." Evelyn gently closed the book. "Yet they both discovered that Project Hallway wasn't created to hide the school's secrets." Jordan's voice was barely above a whisper. "Then why was it created?" Evelyn met his eyes. "To hide something beneath the school..." "...that should never have been forgotten." INT. RECORDS CHAMBER – CONTINUOUS Before anyone could ask another question— The lantern flame flickered violently. Evelyn's expression changed. "They're close." "Who?" Maya asked. Evelyn blew out the lantern. The room fell into darkness. A heavy knock echoed from the giant wooden door. Knock. Knock. Knock. A calm voice came from outside. "Evelyn." "We know you're in there." Jordan recognized it immediately. "Vice Principal Grant." Evelyn quietly shook her head. "No." "Listen carefully." The voice spoke again. This time it sounded different. Almost identical to Grant's... ...but not quite. "Open the door." Evelyn whispered, "That isn't Grant." Maya's heart pounded. "If it's not him..." "...then who's pretending to be him?" The handle of the heavy wooden door slowly began to turn. To be continued in Episode 6 – Part 3...
