FADE IN:
INT. SECRET CHAMBER BENEATH THE BELL – CONTINUOUS
The chamber trembled.
Dust drifted from the ceiling as the ancient bell groaned overhead.
The mysterious figure known as The Caretaker stood motionless, watching Maya, Jordan, and Mr. Ellis.
Jordan tightened his grip on the old journal.
"Don't come any closer."
The Caretaker raised both hands.
"If I wanted to stop you, I would have done it already."
Maya looked at the hidden figure.
"You know about Project Hallway."
"I know more than anyone still alive."
Mr. Ellis stepped forward.
"I thought you disappeared."
"I did."
"For twenty years."
Jordan frowned.
"Why?"
The Caretaker's voice became quiet.
"Because I discovered something The Director wanted buried forever."
INT. SECRET CHAMBER – MOMENTS LATER
The Caretaker pointed toward the ancient journal.
"Read the last page."
Maya carefully turned to the back.
Most of the pages had been torn out.
Only one remained.
The final entry read:
The Bell is not an alarm.
It is a key.
When it rings five times, the chamber below the school will awaken.
Only one student can stop what follows.
Jordan looked up.
"One student?"
Maya felt a chill.
"Who?"
The Caretaker met her eyes.
"I believe it's you."
INT. SECRET CHAMBER – CONTINUOUS
Maya shook her head.
"That doesn't make any sense."
"I've only been here a few days."
"So you believe."
"What does that mean?"
The Caretaker reached into a weathered satchel and removed an old class photograph.
It was dated 2010.
Maya stared at it.
One of the students looked exactly like her.
Same face.
Same eyes.
Same smile.
She whispered,
"That's... me."
Mr. Ellis looked over her shoulder.
"No."
He adjusted his glasses.
"It isn't."
Jordan frowned.
"Then who is it?"
The Caretaker pointed to the caption beneath the photograph.
Mara Thompson
Maya blinked.
"Thompson?"
"She disappeared sixteen years ago."
"My last name..."
"...can't be a coincidence."
The Caretaker nodded slowly.
"It isn't."
INT. SECRET CHAMBER – LATER
Jordan looked at Maya.
"Could Mara be related to you?"
"I don't know."
"My parents never mentioned anyone named Mara."
The Caretaker folded the photograph and handed it to Maya.
"Ask them."
"Will they tell me the truth?"
The Caretaker's expression was impossible to read beneath the shadow of the hat.
"That depends."
"On what?"
"Whether they've been telling you the truth all along."
Maya felt the ground shift beneath her—not from another tremor, but from doubt.
What if her parents knew more than they'd ever admitted?
INT. SECRET CHAMBER – CONTINUOUS
Suddenly—
A loud metallic crash echoed from above.
Then another.
Jordan looked toward the ceiling.
"Someone's coming."
The Caretaker immediately became alert.
"They found the entrance."
Mr. Ellis whispered,
"Grant?"
The Caretaker shook their head.
"Worse."
The chamber lights flickered.
Footsteps echoed down the iron ladder.
Slow.
Steady.
Confident.
A deep voice called out from above.
"Search every room."
Another voice replied,
"Yes, Director."
Maya's heart pounded.
Jordan looked at the Caretaker.
"That's the first time we've actually heard someone call him that."
The Caretaker nodded.
"He's closer than ever."
INT. SECRET PASSAGE
The Caretaker hurried to the far wall and pressed three loose stones.
With a grinding sound, a narrow stone passage opened.
"This leads beneath the east wing."
Jordan grabbed Noah's notebook.
Maya tucked the Headmaster's journal safely into her backpack.
Mr. Ellis looked back toward the ladder.
"What about you?"
The Caretaker smiled faintly.
"I've spent twenty years hiding."
The footsteps grew louder.
"It may be time they found me."
"No!" Maya protested.
"You'll be caught."
The Caretaker looked at her.
"If that happens..."
"...promise me one thing."
"What?"
"Whatever you hear about me..."
"...don't believe the first version of the story."
Maya nodded.
"I promise."
INT. SECRET PASSAGE – MOMENTS LATER
Maya, Jordan, and Mr. Ellis ran through the narrow tunnel.
Behind them, they heard the hidden door close.
The footsteps stopped.
Then came muffled voices.
Someone shouted.
A struggle broke out.
Jordan slowed.
"We have to help."
Mr. Ellis grabbed his shoulder.
"No."
"The Caretaker chose this."
They kept running.
After several minutes, the tunnel ended at a small stone door.
Jordan pushed it open.
Fresh evening air rushed in.
They had emerged into the abandoned courtyard behind the oldest classroom building.
As Maya caught her breath, something fell from her backpack.
It was the class photograph of Mara Thompson.
She picked it up.
This time, she noticed something she had missed before.
Written in tiny handwriting at the bottom edge was a message.
If Maya finds this... tell her she's asking the right questions.
Maya's eyes widened.
"How could someone know my name sixteen years ago?"
Before anyone could answer—
Her phone buzzed.
Unknown Number.
She opened the message.
The third bell will ring tomorrow.
Be in the auditorium before sunset.
Come alone.
Maya stared at the screen.
Jordan noticed the fear in her eyes.
"What is it?"
Maya slowly locked her phone.
"I think..."
"...the game has changed."
