The Observation Room

FADE IN: INT. WESTBROOK HIGH AUDITORIUM – NIGHT The auditorium was silent. The black box had vanished. Only Noah's unfinished letter remained in Maya's trembling hands. Jordan read the final line again. "...The truth has never been underground." He looked around the empty stage. "Then where is it?" Maya folded the letter carefully. "I think we've been looking in the wrong place." Mr. Ellis nodded. "The Director wanted you focused on the tunnels." "So we'd never notice what was hidden in plain sight." INT. SCHOOL HALLWAY – MINUTES LATER The hallways were empty. As Maya, Jordan, and Mr. Ellis walked toward the exit, they passed Locker 117. For the first time... Its door was slightly open. Jordan frowned. "It was locked yesterday." Maya slowly stepped closer. The locker looked ordinary. Books. An old backpack. A cracked shelf. Nothing unusual. Until she noticed a tiny keypad hidden behind the top shelf. She carefully brushed away the dust. A digital display flickered to life. ENTER PASSWORD Jordan stared. "A password?" Mr. Ellis whispered, "I've worked here for twenty-two years..." "...and I've never seen that." INT. HALLWAY – CONTINUOUS Maya pressed a random number. ERROR The screen flashed red. Then another message appeared. THREE ATTEMPTS REMAINING Jordan quickly pulled her hand away. "Don't guess." "If we're locked out..." "We may never get another chance." Maya nodded. "Then we need a clue." Just then— Her phone buzzed. Unknown Number. A message appeared instantly. The password has always been in front of you. She looked around the hallway. "In front of us?" Jordan scanned the lockers. "I don't see anything." INT. LIBRARY – THE NEXT MORNING The three of them spread everything they had collected across a table. Noah's notebook. The Headmaster's journal. The old photographs. The map of the tunnels. The brass bell clapper. And Noah's unfinished letter. Maya read every page again. "There has to be something we're missing." Mr. Ellis picked up the brass pocket watch from the auditorium. The hands were frozen at 11:17. Jordan suddenly looked up. "Wait." "What?" "How many times have we seen that number?" Maya thought. "The clocktower." "The pocket watch." "And..." Her eyes widened. "Locker 117." Jordan smiled. "It can't be a coincidence." Maya entered 1117 into the keypad. ACCESS DENIED The screen turned red again. TWO ATTEMPTS REMAINING Jordan sighed. "So close." INT. CAFETERIA – LUNCH Emma sat across from Maya. "You've been acting strange." "I'm just tired." Emma lowered her voice. "No." "You're hiding something." Maya looked at her carefully. "Why do you keep helping me?" Emma blinked. "What?" "You've been there every time something happens." Emma looked genuinely hurt. "Because you're my friend." Before Maya could respond, Emma reached into her backpack. "I found this outside the auditorium yesterday." She placed a small metal nameplate on the table. The faded engraving read: PROPERTY OF A. GRANT Jordan's eyes widened. "Grant." Emma nodded. "I thought it might matter." Maya turned the plate over. Scratched into the back were four letters. D O O R Below them... Four blank spaces. Like part of a code. INT. LOCKER 117 – AFTER SCHOOL Maya stared at the keypad again. "The password has always been in front of you." She looked at the metal nameplate. Then at the locker. Then at Noah's letter. Jordan whispered, "What if it isn't numbers?" Maya looked back at the keypad. She had assumed it only accepted digits. But beneath the screen... Tiny letters surrounded each number. Like an old telephone keypad. She slowly entered four letters. D O O R The keypad beeped once. The display changed. ENTER SECOND PASSWORD Jordan laughed in disbelief. "There are two passwords." Before anyone could react— The hallway lights flickered. The locker door slammed shut on its own. Every nearby locker clicked open at the same time. Hundreds of locker doors swung wide. Inside each one... A single white envelope rested on the shelf. Every envelope had the same message written across the front. TO THE STUDENT WHO ASKS TOO MANY QUESTIONS. Maya looked down the endless hallway. One by one... The locker doors began to slam shut. BANG! BANG! BANG! The sound echoed through Westbrook High like a countdown. Then, from somewhere deep inside the school... A voice whispered over the intercom. "You're closer than anyone has ever been." CUT TO BLACK.
