Alítheia's First Hero

Chapter 3...... Study Hour.......

People stared as I walked down a maple tree path, marble buildings stretching above. They whispered," She's the kid who 9 years ago.." You may be wondering why their all staring, it all started 9 years ago. It had been a year since I had recovered, me and Harold, the guard who had helped me, he and I were good friends. Two years apart but it was like we were meant to cross paths. I was twelve and he was fifteen, he was a son of one of the main guards. So he was expected to follow traditions at a young age. Mom loved to see me with him, she said I looked happy. And I really was, but one day they found the surveillance footage of him telling me all about what had actually happened, that day at the hospital. They spoke to his father and they planned to exile him. I fought with all my might, but they wouldn't let me see him till the day of. He looked hopeless, and his eyes were red from crying. That day I hugged him so hard, I didn't want him to leave me. He was the only one in my life who knew the truth. But he had a secret I never knew, in his last moments he had turned to me and he erupted in a gold shower. When I went home that day he was one my bed staring at me, he was himself but not. He said he used a trick he found in an old book, and he needed a disguise. So I spent hours helping him out, and he crawled out my window into the scarlet sunset. I fumbled with my evil eye bracelet as they continued to whisper, I hadn't seen him after. But I enjoyed knowing he was alive, if people saw me with him they would discover this identity. And they'd end it for sure- Not like they would hesitate- (:

It turns out Alíethians had abilities that could save them from death, if they had a pure heart. It was in our blood, a natural yet mistaken feature. I continued walking, until a giant building towered over me. Hundreds of high schoolers walked the school halls, Alítheia College. Kids everywhere were smiling ear to ear, but no guard grinned in happiness. Guards were in every corner of the school, not even in the school restrooms were you trusted. I stopped at my locker and flipped through the pages of a school book, ' Our Splendid Society ' it read. Ever since Harold had told me what they did to me, I had wondered if there were any cases where me or others were wiped clean of memories. So I was working hard to enroll into a guard school. It wasn't the best option but it was the only one I had, it was risky but I had planned it for two years. Turns out being a guard was more than shooting random people who disobeyed, it had the structure of a military school. We learned combat,code, and most importantly in Alíthiea law, respect of our government. Because supposedly a guard can be exiled by the higher power, The Omega Guards. They are the two guards that rule over the guards, and serve and protect Sir Kratos. Kratos means powerful in Greek, like Alítheia means truth. But we know the name of this city is a lie, after all they've kept from their fellow people. Suddenly someone knocked my book out of my hands, a random kid had smacked it out of my hands. " Traitor !" He yelled, I raised a fist, still smiling. He scowled, a guard saw this and they took him away as he yelled curses. The hall was quiet for a moment, but then it buzzed with chatter. As you can tell I wasn't the most popular, everyone knew of the girl who desired to be a guard for unknown reasons. They all supposed I was devious and am studying to be a guard because of my "EVIL NATURE".. Next thing you know there's a rumor that toasters have evolved and now have AI chips, just imagine, a smart toaster.

The way rumors are in Alítheia Academy, their possibly the only thing interesting in this city to people.

Later in the day............

It was study hour and I was in the library studying while listening to music on my Symphony Orb. Technology is advanced in Alítheia, a Symphony Orb is a device shaped as a sphere that blocks out all noise and only transmits music to your ear. So you can be listening to a whole different thing and no one would know. It's probably one of the only benefits of this city, other than automatic Uber Eats. I flipped through a few more pages, my eyelids felt heavy. Two nights ago I'd studied till midnight, I had three essays due today. Luckily I had passed, and now I was studying and submitting a resume for The Alítheia Guard School. I hope you find my knowledge has great potential in your school, I typed. I read my resume and then my eyelids flew shut....
