Chapter XVII

BRIA I sat on the bed staring at the T.V. I just couldn't sleep. Morris was sleeping in the guest bedroom, but all I wanted him to do is to be in bed next to me. I sniffed and shuffled my way down the hall to the guest room he was sleeping in. I knocked on the door and he looked up from his computer and looked back down. "Morris." Silence. "Baby." Nothing. "Can you just talk?" "Please get away from me before I snap." He said clenching his jaw. I started to lightly weep. "Bria stop crying. Please just get out." "I'm s-sorry," I said feeling my shoulders jump up a down. "Stop crying, I just need some alone time.” Defeated, I turned and retreated back to the bedroom, climbed into bed, and cried myself to sleep. ********** "Mommy!" I heard Talia and Ariela yell before jumping climbing the stairs to the bed and jumping on me. "Good morning babies." I kissed both of their cheeks before turning on the T.V. for them to watch, while I went to the bathroom to do my morning routine. "C'mon y'all." I helped them both down from the bed and we went into the kitchen to make breakfast. "Go sit down while I cook." They both nodded and walked into the living room. I started to whip up the food, and minutes later Morris came down carrying a fully awake Aziah in his arms. He looked at me before going into the living room with the girls. I sighed. About twenty minutes later I was done cooking and was now setting up the table. "Breakfast is ready." I said placing the condiments on the table. Ariela ran into the kitchen first about to sit down until I gave her the look and she went to wash up. "Morris we need to talk." I said sternly leaving no room for discussion. I hated going to bed mad at each other, especially for petty reasons. He nodded agreeing with me. "After breakfast." I agreed and we ate breakfast and talked to the kids. "Why don't you guys go in the living room and we'll be there in a minute." "Yes, ma'am." Talia said getting up from the table. Ariela followed after her. "Ari, can you bring Ziah's walker?' I asked. "Ok!" She responded. Seconds later she pushed the walker in the kitchen and I placed her in it. "I need to be a big girl and watch Ziah for me. Do not let her out of your sight." "Bria you really gon' let her watch Ziah? Are you slow?" "Morris.." I said annoyed. "Ari, you got it?" "Yes, mommy." "You sure?" "Yess I'm a big girl I can watch her." She said in an aggravated voice. "Watch your tone and gone head." She frowned and slowly rolled Ziah into the living room. "Now we obviously need to talk." "Yeah. You disrespected me." He said. "You mean bruised your ego? Even though you are my boyfriend if you do something wrong I will address you about it. I know that wasn't the problem though, you were upset because I took him to the nurse." "Damn right that was the problem. When I got into this relationship I vowed to myself that I would always make sure you are secure and that you'll always feel safe with me. He threatened my family and I took care of him. Before you snapped me, I was going to tell you he did admit to doing it, and he was not alone." "What do you mean he was not alone?" "Ask your best friend Rachel, apparently they're together." "But I was just talking to her.." "I bet you were and she was giving you a fake ass shoulder to cry on. You always seem to defend someone over me." He said, his nostrils flaring in anger. "That's not true." I countered frowning. "What about when my uncle tried to come at you sideways and I checked him?" "But that's-." "No different." He said finishing my sentence before me. "Why can't you ever just admit you're wrong? Like damn, can you be on my team for a change? I'm always the bad guy." He sighed running his hands down his face. "You're right." I muttered. "What was that?" "I said you're right. I guess I am so hung up on being a peacemaker, I didn't stop to see that your side. I love you baby and I'm sorry for making you feel like I'm never on your team. I just want the best for you, and I didn't want you to jeopardize your career for me." He huffed pulling me into his arms. "Baby I love my job, but I love my family more. What you need to do is sit back and let me be a man. I could care less about it, if that means protecting you. I'm your man and protector, let me be that." I nodded and he bent down to kiss my lips. "You forgive me?" "I don't know I think I need some s****l healing." He grinned palming my ass. I slapped his chest and he smirked putting his hands, surrendering. "You asked." I laughed. "Shush." I said pulling him into the living room. Ariela and Talia were sitting next to Aziah's walker making funny faces. "Kodak moment." I took out my phone and took several pictures before they notice we were standing behind them. "Mommy we making Ziah laugh." Talia exclaimed excitedly. "I see you, baby." I smiled watching them play while Morris hugged me from behind.
