Chapter 3: Sudden Admiration

1161 Words
The cold breeze of the wind in a sunny morning touched Jay's bare soft skin as she walked to the gate of their school. It would've been better if her day started here but a big unplanned problem had ruined it early in the morning where she woke up with an unpleasant voice of her Mother shouting straight at her Father for not going home last night. Her eyes darkened as she remembered what had happened earlier. Jay brushed her hair with her hands, wearing a big frown on her face. She opposed the singing birds in the trees, murmuring and rolling her eyes at them, knowing damn well that it was a great day to be feeling upset but yet, she didn't care. As she continued walking, relentlessly shrugging her hair 'till it's messed up, a guy suddenly pulled her bag before putting his arms on her shoulder. "Get that hell off my shoulders" Jay whispered, still wearing her usual frowny face she wore every morning. "Ohh, easy princess" He laughed before helping her ruin her hair. "Do you have lice? You've been picking your scalp since earlier" He continued teasing. Jay looked at him annoyed, pushing his arms before trying to kick his butt. "Wait-wait !! That's harassment you know?!" Zachary then ran to the gate while looking at Jay's direction, winking and smirking at her to tease her more. The gate was already closing. Good thing, he was just in time though Jay on the other hand was late. "Clean the comfortrooms after class!" The Teacher in charge of the late students said angrily, giving a scary gaze at the students—it is their penalty for not being on time. Both continued walking to their classroom while Zach just continued laughing at Jay. "I really want to kill you, you know that?" She side-eyed Zach before going to their classroom. The homeroom teacher was already there when they arrived. Jay still sat beside Emily like before. Unlike yesterday, both seemed to listen to their teacher more, now that the crush thing was already solved—not really but it had happened yesterday which Jay already forgot and also lost interest in because she's still upset with her parents. She was focused on the whole discussion, finishing every subject with thoughts and knowledge. After the last subject, Jay hurriedly cleaned her desk, hoping that no one would sit on her usual and favorite spot. "Uh- Jay?" Emily called. "Oh hi! Uhmm, sorry about yesterday really" Jay looked at Emily with an apologetic look, pouting her lips making it more convincing to Emily while her hands slightly waving to tell her it wasn't intentional. "Oh, no- no. I was going to ask if you're already fine with the lesson or you also need help" She gave a friendly gaze while holding her books. "No, I'm fine. I'll just ask Zach for help." She said, clearing the awkward air. "How was yesterday? Did you two have fun?" Jay asked curiously. "Oh, yeah, we talked about our lesson and also had a few discussions about books" Jay's mood lit up hearing that the two had discussions about books which Zachary likes, having a small thought that he and Emily already had commons, small talks and jokes. She smiled but their chats were cut off when Emily's friend called her. Jay walked to the hallway, making scenarios of what had happened yesterday. As she continued walking, a sudden thought hit her mind. "Where the hell is Zachary James?" She said to herself annoyed by the fact that Zach didn't even mind telling her what had happened yesterday which she completely forgotten about but then a man suddenly talked behind her. He had a deep, manly voice. She turned to the man and saw a tall, dark, attractive yet familiar guy. "Jay, long time no see" He greeted, waving his hands while wearing a smile. "Who--" she was going to ask but then realized who the man she's talking to was. "Ah, Clee!" She greeted him with an excited tone. Her smile widened, her eyes smiled along with her lips. "Clevereo" he snapped his fingers, looking straight to Jay's eyes. Both of them giggled seeing each other after a very long time. "What are you doing here?" She asked, excited as her childhood bestfriend who she hasn't seen for quite a while was in her school. "We have a team battle here. Your school is also known for having great basketball players, I'm in awe" He smiled. "When's the game?" "This afternoon will be our practice, tomorrow's the actual game." Jay suddenly raised her eyebrows, hearing his words. "Then, why are you here?" She asked. "Looks like you already want me gone huh? That's upsetting..." He pouted his lips, acting sadly cute in front of Jay. "I-I meant, why in the hallway, on the second floor?" She clarified awkwardly laughing. "Oh, Mr. Waltz asked me here." Both continued their chat while walking. On the other hand, as the two walked, Zach came out of Mr. Waltz office and saw the two, happily talking. His eyes widened upon seeing Jay with an unfamiliar man. Jay was smiling while chatting with the guy that made Zachary freeze in his spot. He watched Jay, smiling widely while talking, her hair tied tightly. She would look at the unfamiliar guy's direction, smile and then brush her hair as if she felt nervous with butterflies flying in her stomach—Jay has a habit of brushing her hair when nervous, scared, happy or she's feeling butterflies in her stomach. As he took gazes at Jay, he could feel his heart beating faster and faster while the two just got closer to each other. His cheeks was left red with his heart still beating like crazy. While looking at Jay, their eyes suddenly met that caught Zach off guard. He looked away feeling embarrassed. "What the hell is wrong with you Zachary James Madrigal?" Zach thought to himself, his hands on his chest feeling his loud heartbeat. "Huh? Zach!" Jay noticed Zach and she greeted him but he didn't seem to notice her as he just walked away, heading to the cafeteria. "I guess he didn't see me..." Jay sighed, looking down. "Your boyfriend?" Clee smiled, bending his knees to be the same height as Jay to see her reaction. "Huh? N-no... My boy-friend" She looked at him and seeing Clee, bending down to talk to her better made her giggle. "Same thing" He said with a confused look. "My friend who's a boy, more like my boy best friend" She clarified, smirking weirdly at him before walking away. "Hey! Where' you going?" "Cafeteria, Mr. Waltz's office is right there. See you around!" She waved at him, jumping happily while walking. "Tsk, does she have a split-personality disorder?" He murmured. "Ahh, Team captain, great to see you" Mr. Waltz offered Clee a chair to sit on. -To be continued-
