Chapter 4

325 Words
When Mira opened her eyes again, what her saw was a hospital ceiling. "Mira, you're awake?" a familiar, low voice sounded beside her. Excitement trembled beneath Julian's words. "The doctor says you're pregnant. We're having a baby." He leaned down until his forehead rested gently against hers. His voice was solemn. "Mira, trust me. I'll handle everything with the West family as quickly as possible. Then I'll marry you openly and properly." Mira pushed him away. Her eyes were cold as ice. "And how exactly are you going to do that? Tell me." Julian froze. His gaze shifted away, unable to answer. A mocking smile appeared on Mira's lips. "Even now, you're still trying to lie to me. Get out." Julian looked at her stubborn expression, irritation surging inside him. Yet there was nothing he could do. Just then, his phone rang abruptly. Glancing at the caller ID, he walked over to the window and answered. After a brief conversation, he returned to the bedside. His expression was complicated. "Mira. Father has changed his mind. Your confinement has been lifted." Before Mira could respond, he continued. "However, the West family is hosting a banquet tonight. It's... a sort of pre-engagement gathering for Clara and me. You should get ready. You'll be attending as well." Mira's eyes widened. He knew exactly how cruel this was. Just moments ago, he had been making promises and swearing his love. Yet now, once again, he had obeyed his father's orders and become an accomplice in hurting her. "Mira, you have to go. It's Father's decision." After saying that, Julian didn't dare meet her eyes any longer. He turned and hurried out of the room as though fleeing from something. Mira stared at the gray sky outside the window. Suddenly, she felt relieved. Maybe this was for the best. She had already given up on him. If she had to go, then she'd go. What was there left to fear?
