Chapter 4: THE BATTLE BEGINS

The den erupted into chaos as Ralph , Rieka, and Gonzalo rushed to the entrance. Wolves from the Stone Creek pack were already gathering, their faces showing a blend of fear and determination. There was much fear and panic as they waited to see how the chaos would unfold.
Ralph with a loud voice as his voice slice through the clamor.
“Everyone, get into position! Protect the den at all costs!”
Rieka’s heart raced as she observed the pack springing into action. She turned to Gonzalo, her voice laced with anxiety.
“What should we do?”
Gonzalo’s expression darkened, a mix of guilt and determination clear on his face.
“We hold our ground. The pack is counting on us.”
Ralph stepped closer, his gaze shifting between Rieka and Austin.
“We need to understand what we’re facing. Austin, you know Lloyd’s plans better than anyone. Do you have any idea on what they want?”
Gonzalo nodded grimly.
“It is most likely that they are here to intimidate us, to show they have the numbers and strength. They can't come out in numbers if they don't have a specific target.”
Ralph ’s jaw tightened.
“And you think that target is Rieka.”
Gonzalo looked at Rieka, his expression softening.
“It’s possible. Lloyd knows about her powers. He sees her as a threat—or an asset.”
Rieka’s stomach twisted.
“Great. So I’m the reason they’re here.”
Ralph placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
“You’re not the reason, Rieka. This is on Lloyd and his greed for power. We’ll protect you. I’ll protect you.”
She nodded, drawing strength from his words, even as fear gnawed at the edges of her resolve.
A howl echoed from outside, sharp and urgent. Ralph ’s head snapped toward the sound, his body tensing, he said as his voice low and dangerous.
“They’re here, Stay close to me.”
They moved toward the entrance, joining the rest of the pack. The sight that greeted them was enough to send a chill down Rieka’s spine.
Half of panther shifters wait at the end of the clearing, their eyes gleaming with malice. Their leader, a tall, imposing figure, stepped forward, his gaze locking onto Ralph .
The panther called, his voice smooth and mocking
“Alpha of Stone Creek, We’ve come to talk.”
Ralph ’s lip curled in a sneer.
“You come to our territory with an army, and you expect us to believe you want to talk?”
The panther leader smirked.
The tide of the fight seemed to shift with every passing second.“A precaution. We wouldn’t want any... misunderstandings.”
Ralph took a step forward, his presence commanding.
“I don't see any reason for this, there is no misunderstanding here. You’re invading our pack, and you’re not welcome.”
The panther chuckled darkly.
“Always so direct, Alpha. But we’re not here for you.”
His eyes shifted to Rieka, and she felt her heart skip a little.
“We are here for Rieka.”
A low rumble of thunder roared in Ralph 's chest.
"You'll have to go through me first."
The Black Panther leader raised his eyebrows.
“We don't want to fight. Send her away and we will leave in peace.”
Ralph laughed in a humorless tone.
“That won't happen.”
The Black Panther Leader sighed as if disappointed,
“Poor thing, I hope to avoid unnecessary bloodshed.”
With a nod to the leader The panther moved forward. Their bodies in the center advanced towards a sleek and dangerous beast.
Ralph shouted, his voice echoing throughout the chaos.
“Hold the line!”
The Stone Creek Wolves come into action, meeting the Panther Shifters with howls and furies. Liberation became a battlefield. Full of roar scream and clash of bodies
Rieka found herself being pulled back by Gonzalo. His grip was firm but gentle.
“Stay away from the game, you are valuable.”
She shook her head, her voice shaky but determined.
“I just stood here and couldn't do anything.”
Gonzalo said with a serious look
“You can do it. You have to do it. If they reach you Everything we fought for will be gone.”
Rieka bit her lip. Hated the feeling of hopelessness that overcame her. But she knew Gonzalo was right. She cannot be captured or used against the group.
Ralph 's sudden crying caught her attention. He was locked in a battle with the Panther leaders, their movements a blur of teeth and nails. Ralph sticks to his own ways. But Rieka could see the tension in his eyes and the heavy responsibility he bore.
Gonzalo placed a hand on her shoulder and brought her attention back to him.
“We have to be prepared for everything. Stay close and trust the group.”
She nodded, fear engulfing her as she watched the battle unfold. The wolf was ferocious, but the panther was unstoppable. The tide of the fight seemed to shift with every passing moment.
Suddenly, a sharp scream sounded in the air, and Rieka's head whipped around. To see one of the younger wolves fall. The black panther that had cut him down His eyes fixed on Rieka with a ferocious light.
Before she could react, Panther lunged, closing the distance between them in a heartbeat, Rieka's breath caught in her throat. And stopped in place
Gonzalo steps forward. His body moved into a wolf roar. He collided with the panther in midair. And the impact caused both of them to fall to the ground.
Celine gasped and staggered towards the two shifters who were fighting viciously. She wants to help But she knew she would just be in the way.
Gonzalo was able to pin Panther down, his teeth bared dangerously close to his neck.
“Go or you'll die here.”
The panther hissed as he struggled beneath him.
“This isn't over yet.”
Gonzalo lets out a final roar. The panther scrambled to its feet and retreated. And dissolved into the shadows
Gonzalo turned to Rieka and stumbled back, gasping for air. He asked.
“Are you okay?”
She nodded shakily. Her heart was still beating fast.
“Yes, thank you.”
He offered a faint smile.
“That's what we do. Protect each other.”
Before Rieka could respond The screams sounded again. This time it was from Ralph . She turned to see him standing over the fallen Panther hero, his chest swelling with effort. The remaining Panthers hesitated. Their lead decreased. And their numbers dwindled.
Ralph gritted his teeth and roared in victory.
“Go now or experience the same luck.”
The Panthers exchanged glances before retreating. Dragging the unconscious leader with him There was an impeccable silence except for the heavy breathing of the victorious wolf.
Ralph walked over to Rieka and Gonzalo. His eyes scanned for those injuries.
“Are you two okay?”
She nodded faintly. Her heart was still beating fast.
“Yes we are good, thank you.”
He offered a faint smile.
“That's what we do. Protect each other.”
Before Rieka could respond The screams sounded again. This time it was from Ralph . She turned to see him standing over the fallen Panther hero, his chest swelling with effort. The remaining Panthers hesitated. Their lead decreased. and their numbers dwindled.

“Go now or experience the same fate.”
The panthers shared a glance, then turned and disappeared into the darkness, the unconscious body of their leader dragging behind them. The clearing was silent once more, save for the labored breathing of the victorious wolves.
Ralph walked over to Rieka and Austin. His eyes scanned for those injuries.
“Are you two okay?”
Rieka nodded, her voice steady despite the fear.
“We are fine.”
Ralph 's eyes softened as he looked at her.
“You are very brave.”
Before you answer Gonzalo spoke up in a serious tone. “This is not the end. They will come back.”
Karl's expression hardened. “Then we will be ready.”
As the pack began to regroup and care for the wounded. Ralph then took Rieka and Gonzalo back to the cave. But when they reached the entrance, a cold howl resounded in the distance. Sending a new wave of fear through Rieka's veins.
Ralph stopped walking. His eyes narrowed.
“That's not one of us.”
Gonzalo's face darkened.
“Lloyd is here.”
Rieka's blood runs cold at the mention of Lloyd Rock. She clenched her fists. Her mind was beating very fast. She asked.
“What does he want?”
Ralph 's jaw clenched.
“To finish what he started.”
