Hunters POV

I hate visiting these packs it’s so time consuming I would rather be out solving these rogue issues within the pack lands. “I’ve heard the alpha of this pack is getting ready to hand his title over to his son in a matter of weeks.” My beta James said to me, “ He seems to be ready according to what his father has said, he’s showing leadership,responsibility for the pack and the well being of his family business.” Good for him I said.

How Long do we have to be here ? I said to James, He looked at me and said “ Alpha Nick says he has some information about the rogue issues that may be useful to us, and don’t forget your mother as well as the pack want you to find our Luna as well and staying here for a few days might not be a bad idea.” I looked at him and growled, I hated this conversation everyone wants me to find my mate and I couldn’t care less. I was perfectly capable of handling my pack on my own. “ I know you hate the subject but you’re turning 25 soon and are getting more short tempered as the years go by and you don’t find her. I also want you to have what I have with Nicole.”

Nicole is James’ mate they found each other when we were away on pack business 4 years ago and they’ve been inseparable since then, just looking at the way he’s so whipped by her makes me sick. I won’t be that way because I don’t need the distraction I’m hyper focused on my pack and that’s all that matters. “You’re gonna find her soon because we need her, and you’ll be as putty in her hands as James is with his mate” My wolf Xander said to me. “I can’t wait to claim our mate and treat her like the queen she is.” I just rolled my eyes at him and James. I don’t need a distraction,I told James. I won’t be p***y whipped by some girl I barely even know. “ That’s what I said for years then I met Nicole.”

“You never know how precious the mate bond is until it hits you, and instead of being a d**k headed alpha and running from it you should be searching for it.” I growled at him and said “Whatever.”

James has been my best friend since we were kids, he’s the only one who knows me better than I know myself. I would never allow anyone to disrespect me or speak to me the way he does but because it’s him I know he has mine and the packs best interest. Truth is I don’t want a mate because I’ve seen how it also affects us in a negative way. My father would cheat on my mother with random she wolves now and again and because of the bond she would feel the betrayal each and every time. I hated hearing her screams at night I was a teenager when I found out what was causing my mom so much pain and from then on I vowed I would never let that be me, I would never let myself be that weak.

When I turned 18 I challenged my father for the alpha position, Which is quite unheard of because the only way to become alpha of a pack is to kill the current alpha. I trained day in and day out to get rid of my father he was a terrible alpha and an even worse mate, my mother tried to leave him many times and severe the bond many times but each time he would find her and beat her until she was completely out of it. I hated him, so when the time came I challenged him and won. Not only was I the youngest alpha to challenge another alpha but I was the first to win. It’s been 7 years since that and I’ve managed to become the strongest, most ruthless alpha in the country.

Our pack is the wealthiest packs in the region, thanks to all our businesses we run. I look at James and tell him “Do not leave me alone with this alpha for too long I hate small talk I want to talk about what he saw and what his issues are and be done with it, I’ve heard his pack is having financial issues and I have a feeling he is going to ask for an alliance to help settle his debts.”

James nodded in understanding
