“Stop trying so hard.” She said as if that it was as simple as doing. She didn’t know how hard it was for me to let go of it all. How hard it was for me to choose the right thing. For myself and for societies good as well. They were two very different things. What would the world think and what would my parents think?
Her smile dropped. The pressure on my c**t lifted. “Oh. Are you not--?”
Shame fell over her face. It didn’t hit fast enough for me until she was straitening her clothes, drawing in on herself. Oh god. She thought she was forcing herself onto me! Though it wasn’t entirely untrue.
“It’s not that I don’t want you.” I bit my lip. “I’ve never done it with…”
“A woman?” She offered.
I held my breath. This was it. After I said it there was no going back from this.
“I’ve never done it with…anyone.”
It was as if someone had pushed me from behind. I felt all the air whoosh out of my lungs. And that was it. After holding it in for so long, afraid that somehow facing the truth would kill me, all it took was a second.
I couldn’t quite describe the look on her face. It was between shock and dismay bordering on disbelief. I wasn’t entirely sure if I should be glad or worried about her reaction.
She pursed her lips. “That…makes sense.”
“Is that a problem?” I wasn’t going to take the deal. I was just curious.
She shook her head with a tiny bit of hesitance. She had to think about it. That should mean something.
She looked around the room. Nothing had changed. I don’t know why she was suddenly scared someone might see us. She scooted closer until she was on the edge of her seat.
“Are you sure you haven’t…?”
I laughed. “That I haven’t accidentally f****d someone? I think I might have noticed something like that.”
I sighed. “Your husband was the first c**k I ever had. And…”
I swallowed. I wasn’t sure if saying that Mel was technically the first girl I’d been with was worth mentioning. This was about Nate and Amelia. It had nothing to do with Melanie.
She moved to the seat beside me. I didn’t move as she put a hand on my thigh. It felt nice.
“I didn’t mean to sound like it’s a bad thing. It’s hard to believe a girl as good looking as you never did anything with anyone.”
How could I say that no one ever wanted to do anything with me without making it sound like a pity party?
I didn’t have to. Amelia was already past it.
“The deal still stands. Money for your time and we get your body.”
She grinned like a snake. Or a demon. It all was the same to me.
The door at the side of the stage opened. Nate had a grim look on his face and Xander was as cold as ever. I tried to move away from Amelia, out of habit. I’m sure no one here minded that Amelia and I had been on the verge of finger f*****g. Or I guess you would call it toe f*****g. I really didn’t want to think about it too much.
Nate placed his hand on Amelia’s shoulder. “We’re leaving.”
“Already?” Amelia looked at me and then up at Nate. Nate’s hand wandered down to her collar. He wrapped it around her neck and gave a faint squeeze. She fell back into the embrace. I watched the blue veins in his strong hand move. The power he had was intoxicating. It was no wonder he’d captured a woman like Amelia.
Amelia didn’t need to be told twice. She stood from her seat, moving with a grace I could only dream of. Nate stared down at me as Amelia gathered her purse.
“Julie, stand up.”
My eyes widened. His voice had changed. It was deep and booming. It was the voice he used in the classroom and for Amelia. He’d never spoken to me in that way.
He narrowed his eyes.
“Stand. Up.”
I rushed to my feet. I could feel the rest of the room looking at us. My cheeks burned with embarrassment. Amelia was looking coy.
Nate put his hand on the center of my back. He leaned down until his lips brushed my ear.
“You’re doing well.”
A strange feeling happened in my chest. It was a fire burning inside of me that just wanted to do anything for him. I couldn’t understand it. I’d known him for only a short amount of time. And it was a battle with myself. That pesky feeling wanted him and I wanted to run away.
We walked out of the club. The night air brought me back down to reality. They were going to give me a way out of the trouble I was in. If I took the money, I wouldn’t have to worry about school, the bills, or my parents fussing over me.
They walked me to my car.
Nate opened the door for me.
“How much is it?”
He didn’t answer.
I looked up at him. The night sky hid most of his features, but the lights from the club showed how blue his eyes were. His dark brown wavy hair fell over his face. He was forbidden. And a part of me hated him for that.
“How much are you offering?”
I had to know. If they wanted me, they needed to pay the price. I could at least have him in some way, even if I couldn’t have him all to myself.
It had to have been the club that had changed me. The demanding tone in my voice was unlike me. This, thinking about getting rid of Amelia, wasn’t like me. Wanting a man I couldn’t have was unlike me.
Giving my body away like a w***e was most definitely unlike me.
“Fifty grand.” He clutched the metal of the door. “Fifty grand a month for the next six months. Not including living costs which we’ll be providing.”
I almost fell to the ground. That much money…who were these people? A professor and a manager? Nothing was adding up.
“Is that not enough?” His jaw clenched.
I shook my head and laughed. It was barely a laugh, more like a rushed out sigh of disbelief. “I didn’t know I was worth that much.”
I couldn’t tell what he was thinking.
“Call me when you decide.”
He held out a business card. I took it with a shaky hand.
Of course he would have a business card. Of course.
Amelia wrapped her arm around his waist and he wrapped his arm around her waist.
They walked to their car and I drove away, watching them as they went.
