Chapter 3When Markus woke for the second time, he was alone. He lay still for a moment, wondering if he had made the right decision in the middle of the night. I could have killed him in at least three ways while he slept, he thought to himself. But what would I do then? Steal his clothes and weapons and run, out into a country where I know no one and have no idea where to go? I don’t like this but it still might be that the smartest thing I can do right now is grin and bear what I have to until I can figure out where I am and what to do. He pulled the bath robe straight around himself, and, hearing noises in the outer room, went to see what was happening.
