Chapter 3 The Slap

453 Words
For a few seconds, every person in the room went statue-still. Jaws dropped to the floor. Olivia was the first to recover. She glared at me with tears brimming in her eyes. "Miss, how could you lay hands on someone? Have you never heard of basic decency? Even if your education is lacking, that doesn't give you the right to harass people. James is out of your league!" Impressive. She could tear a person apart without using a single curse word. I found it amusing. So righteous. Funny how she'd looked perfectly entertained when those guys were hurling lies and insults at me just moments ago. Her justice had a double standard. It only applied when a man was the victim. A: [The villainess is insane!! She slapped the rich male lead?? She scared our sweet baby girl! Good job calling her out, babe! Just go harder next time!] B: [This i***t who'll be dead by chapter three thinks she's his soulmate? She's a bloodstain at best! The male lead is gonna destroy her face!] C: [Our baby girl is so much better. Sweet, gentle, born to be the perfect wifey. Never argues with the male lead, docile as a kitten. Anyone would pick her, right?] D: [No wonder she's the wicked villainess! Vain women who won't obey the male lead are absolute trash! Catering to men is a woman's highest virtue! Just die! Waiting for the male lead to lose it!] I was genuinely stunned. If being a submissive little wifey was the prerequisite for being the heroine, then I was perfectly happy being the villainess. Men? Men exist to serve women. That's what they're for. So eager to see James blow up at me? I let myself smile. They were going to be very disappointed. I towered over James, looking down at him, and spoke one word at a time. "Apologize." Some bleach-blond thug beside him scoffed and jumped to his feet, jabbing a finger in my face. "Who the f**k do you think you're talking—" "Shut your mouth!!" James's roar cut the guy off mid-sentence. His gorgeous face still wore my handprint, and both eyes burned red with rage. He lifted his gaze to meet mine. Light caught the tears forming at the corners of his eyes. But he ground out three words through clenched teeth. "I'm. Sorry." The room went dead silent with shock. Brody's terrified whisper broke the silence. "Shit... it's over... the only person on earth who can put James in his place... she's really back..." I gave a satisfied nod. And here I'd thought they'd all forgotten. The Harrison family's golden boy had been trained into my most obedient dog three full years ago.
