Becca’s heart dropped. “What accident?” she asked Maggie, forcing herself to maintain a steady tone.
“Max was in an accident in Las Vegas five years ago,” Maggie said. “And he lost part of his memory in the process, especially what happened around the time of the accident.”
Becca’s mouth went dry. She’d had no idea. She’d thought he was just pretending to have forgotten her, but he actually had no memory of Vegas and of their time together.
“The doctors say he may or may not recover those memories,” Maggie continued in a low voice. “You should have seen him trying so hard to remember them—it was horrific watching him endure those headaches. Then they got so bad that he eventually stopped. My guess is that something important happened in Vegas, but the doctors say it must hav
