Nia walked into the cool air of her house and let out a sigh. She kicked off her shoes and sat down in the corner of the sofa, cuddling a golden velour pillow. A tap on the door startled her. She jumped up. She looked at the clock on the wall. 8:19. “Yeah?” She stepped forward to the small, round peephole on the door. She tip-toed to look through it. A pale, thin man in a short-sleeve, button-down shirt and a baseball cap stood on the patio. He held a stack of papers under his forearms. “Yeah,” Nia called through the door again. “Can I help you with something?” “Hi Ma’am. I live next door. I just wanted you to know that there’s a tow-truck out here getting ready to tow your car away,” he said in a high, nasally voice. She opened the door and walked passed the man onto the driveway. N
