Chapter 5 A mountain of dread engulfed her, as they pulled into the parking lot of Arnie’s. She checked the clock on her phone. 10:23. She bid farewell to Wilson, then climbed out of the car and headed for the glass door of the restaurant. The place was packed. Suited men with their dressy wives waited on the brown leather ottomans. White stockinged legs stuck out of colorful Sunday dresses. Black, patent leather heels clicked on the red tile floor. Brie was standing at the table of two seniors, writing something down on a notepad. She looked up at Nia. Her mouth gaped open, and then she shut it tight and gave her warning looks through widened eyes. Nia lowered her head and trudged to the kitchen. She quickly put her apron on in the mirror.
