NICHOLAS’S POV The air in my office was thick with silence, the kind that signaled an impending storm. Caleb stood across from me, his expression unreadable, though the tension in his posture gave him away. The report he had placed on my desk moments ago remained unopened between us, but I already knew what it contained. Gareth. His name had been buried with him years ago. But now, it was clawing its way back into my world. I reached for the folder, flipping it open. The first image made my jaw tighten. The skeletal remains had been deliberately positioned, the bones carefully arranged rather than discarded. Someone had gone through the trouble of making sure I found him—and that I understood this was no accident. “They wanted you to find him,” Caleb said, his voice measured.
