Isabella's POV
My breath hitched as I stared at the stranger—now revealed to be my husband's stepbrother. Killian.
His cold gaze locked onto mine, and a shiver ran down my spine.
Sweat coated my palms while my heart pounded unevenly against my ribs. Anxiety twisted violently inside me as one terrifying thought echoed through my head.
I hope he won't mention anything about last night.
The fear of Silas finding out was enough to make my entire body tremble.
“This is Isabella,” Silas said casually. “The pack Luna.”
But the way he pronounced the title felt cold and distant, as though I were nothing more than an obligation standing beside him instead of his wife.
“She’s beautiful.” Killian’s deep voice dragged me from my thoughts. His eyes slowly traveled over me with dangerous intensity. “And sweet.”
The last word made my pulse spike violently, making me swallow hard swiftly.
My eyes widened.
What was he doing?
Did he want Silas to discover what happened between us?
Did he want my husband to know about the terrible mistake I had made?
For a brief second, confusion crossed Silas’s face before it disappeared behind a smile.
“It’s been almost six years, brother,” Silas said. “How have you been?”
“Better than I expected,” Killian replied calmly, but his eyes never left me.
The weight of his gaze alone was enough to send heat rushing through my body.
“I’m glad you finally came back,” Silas continued as he stepped closer and clasped Killian’s shoulder. “If things had gone differently, you would’ve been ruling this pack beside me.” Something dark flickered briefly in Killian’s expression at his words. “But it’s not too late,” Silas added smoothly. “I want you here with me. I want you to rule this pack along with me and watch it prosper than it ever been in history.”
“How generous of you, Alpha,” Killian replied. His tone was polite, but beneath it, I caught the sharp edge of sarcasm.
“It’s nothing,” Silas said with a smile. “You know I would do anything for my older brother.”
I noticed the way Killian face twisted into a smirk as if he didn't believe him. “Come. Sit down,” Silas continued. “We have a lot to talk about.”
He guided Killian toward the couch in the living room.
I remained standing quietly nearby while Silas spoke, but throughout the entire conversation, Killian never once looked away from me.
The intensity of his gaze made my skin crawl. My fingers twisted together nervously while my thoughts spiraled into chaos.
Then suddenly, the memory of last night crashed into me. Heat spread through my body instantly. My chest rose unevenly as flashes of his touch replayed inside my mind.
No.
This was wrong.
Completely wrong.
He was my husband’s stepbrother. I shouldn’t be thinking about him this way.
I needed to regain control of myself.
“I’ll ask the maids to bring refreshments,” I said quickly.
And without waiting for a response, I hurried toward the kitchen.
The refreshments were only an excuse. I simply needed distance from Killian.
The way he looked at me was dangerous enough to draw suspicion from Silas. If my husband ever discovered what happened between us, I wouldn’t survive it.
The moment I entered the empty kitchen, I gripped the edge of the counter tightly and lowered my head. My heartbeat thundered loudly in my ears. I still couldn’t shake the memory of the way Killian looked at me.
Every time our eyes met, something unfamiliar stirred violently inside me. Fear. Excitement. And confusion.
I didn’t know anymore.
I stood there silently, trying to steady my breathing.
“You ran away this morning.” The deep voice behind me sent a violent shiver down my spine.
I jolted upright immediately. My heart slammed wildly against my ribs as Killian stepped closer. Too close to feel his body.
Heat flooded my body the moment his chest pressed lightly against my back.
His hands settled over mine on the counter. The contact alone nearly weakened my knees.
God.
I needed to pull myself together.
I sucked in a shaky breath and quickly turned toward him. The moment our eyes met, my pulse stumbled. Desire burned openly in his gaze.
“What... what are you doing?” I asked weakly, hating the way my voice shook.
“Why did you run?” he asked quietly. There was frustration beneath his calm tone.
He leaned closer, and his scent wrapped around me instantly, making my body react against my will.
“I...” My thoughts tangled completely.
I shut my eyes briefly, trying desperately to stay focused.
God.
I was losing control again.
“Do you really think you can run from me?” he murmured. His voice was dangerous and strangely warm at the same time. “You’re wrong, love.” His fingers brushed softly against my cheek. “No one escapes me. Not even the Luna of the Golden Moon Pack.”
The touch sent another wave of heat through me. “Please...” My voice cracked.
I swallowed hard before forcing myself to continue. “This is wrong. If Silas sees us, he will kill both of us.”
Instead of backing away, Killian stepped even closer. His lips hovered dangerously near mine.
“He’s busy taking calls,” Killian said softly. “And even if he sees us... I don’t care.”
My eyes widened immediately.
Was he insane?
Maybe the rumors were true.
Maybe he really was truly mad. He's indeed the dangerous man who was capable of getting his father killed. Who didn't care about consequences or anyone's life.
“I—” He stopped suddenly as Silas’s voice thundered through the house.
“Isabella!” My heart nearly stopped.
Heavy footsteps echoed closer toward the kitchen. Panic shot through me instantly. I looked at Killian desperately, silently begging him to let me go. But he didn’t move.
“He’s coming,” I whispered urgently as I tried pulling away from him. “Let me go now.”
But Killian only tightened his hold slightly.
“Let him come,” he said darkly and my breath caught in my throat. “I want him to know you’re mine.”
Fear gripped my chest so violently it hurt.
Was he crazy?
“Isabella?” Silas called again, much closer this time.
My pulse pounded wildly.
If Silas walked into this kitchen and saw us together like this— I knew he would never let me live. Never!
