CHAPTER 3

Sage woke up to her alarm ringing. She angrily turned it off and threw the sheets over her head. " No time to snooze. Wake up and go to work. " her sister said uncovering her. Sage sighed sadly as she lazily got out if bed. " I'm calling in sick. I can't stand another day working for that arrogant arsehole !" Sage complained walking into the kitchen.

"You have to work to pay your bills, grumbler. " " You are just saying that because you work for your fiance Ally. " Sage said sipping from the coffee mug. Ally looked at Sage and brushed her finger on her busted lip. " You really should quit fighting. " she said. Sage pulled away and looked at her sister. " You said I need to make a few bucks. I have to do this. " she replied then sipped her coffee." I'll see you after work and please, just go work. " Ally said leaving the house.

" This is Sage speaking. " she said receiving her phone.

" We have a new target. Alden Thorne. He will be in town this weekend and for the next two weeks. Terminate him. " the line went off and Sage looked at her phone as the information was sent to her.

" I've never taken out a member of the high table. " she said excitement in her eyes. " They are the most difficult to take out. always under protection throughout. But Alden is an easy target, trust you me. " Lucas said walking in." Are we in this together? " Sage asked. Lucas leaned on the doorframe and smiled lightly at Sage. " No doll, this is a solo hit. I've got another assignment out of town same time as you. But I trained you well, I believe. " Lucas said then walked over to Sage." Don't mess up. " he said then walked over to his desk.

" You'll come watch me fight tonight, right? 'Sage asked. Lucas' brown eyes burrowed deep into Sage's as he got up and walked to her. He held her by the cheek and looked down to her. " You will have to move on from us and what we had. Its all gone now. Forget about it and move on " he said then planted a kiss on her forehead. "A little support never hurt anyone but it's cool. " Sage said

A while later, she arrives at the office where she worked as a sales representative. " Sage, you're late , again, for the third time this week. " a familiar voice said." Sorry sir. there was... " "... traffic, of course. Get to your post before I think otherwise. Today we will be expecting high ranking guests so be on your best behavior. They will be walking in any minute now. "

A woman walked over to them and whispered something to the man. His expression changes and he dismisses the woman." Sage, come with me now. " he said gesturing safe to follow him. She followed behind hastily wondering why she was summoned.

" Mr. Thorne. Welcome to our company. This is my assistant Sage. " " Mr. Burne its always a pleasure to see you again. " Alden said. Sage stared at Alden not realizing Kent was standing next to his father, looking at her. "This is my son, Kent. He's accompanying me on this little business trip. "Alden introduced him and They shook hands with Mr. Burne. When they shook hands with Sage, they stared at each other for a while before letting each other's hands go . "Sage, would you mind giving Mr. Thorne's son a tour around the company as I and Mr. Thorne have a chat in my office? " Mr. Burne asked. Sage nodded and looked back at Kent. " Right this way sir. " She said a nervous smile creeping across her face.

"And this is the break room. Well every floor has its own break room but this is my personal favorite because it's empty. And most of the times I work from here. "Sage said then chuckled nervously.

" Uhm, Have we ever met before somewhere? like at a party or anywhere ? " Kent asked. Sage looked at him confused and shook her head. " No sir. I think you're mistaking me for someone. " She replied looking away. " You remind me of someone I once met before. But your status definitely doesn't fit the person I met then. "Kent said arrogantly.

" How dare you say that to me?" Sage asked angrily. " You're a mid class employee and can't be compared to us rich folks. " he said smiling noticing Sage getting irritated. Sage slammed her file on the coffee desk and looked Kent dead in the eyes. " Listen you punk, just because I'm not filthy rich doesn't give you a chance to f*****g speak to me like that. you have no idea of what I'm capable of! "

" God, a feisty one. You're making my body grow hot lady . I just wish I could bend you over this... " Sage punched Kent in the face and Kent smiled with rage. Mr Burne and Alden walked in just to see Sage punch Kent in the face. " Sage, my office , now! "Mr. Burne said. Sage looked back at Kent who was smiling, blood oozing from his nose.

" Kent, I told you to behave." Alden said. "You saw her punch me, I definitely didn't do anything." Kent said in his defense.

"Sage, I've had enough of your trouble and I think it's time I make this decision. I'm laying you off from my company. " Mr Burne said angrily. "But sir he's the one who provoked me." Sage said in her defence. "I'm fed up with your excuses. Take your things from you office and go home. I don't want to see you in my office" "Yes sir "

" Waiter, give me a neat whiskey . 'Sage ordered. She sat at the bar counter alone drinking some whiskey." I'm sorry about earlier today. It was totally my fault. " Kent apologized while taking a seat next to her. " Are you following me or something? "Sage asked not looking at Kent. He let out a sigh and a groan. " My dad made me find you and apologize for being a d**k. Its totally my fault that you got fired. " He said not taking his eyes off her. The waiter gave Sage her glass and she grabbed it and took it in one shot. " The damage is already done. Sorry bout your pretty face . "She said still not looking at him.

" Your throw was pretty accurate. where did you learn that from? "Kent asked grabbing the glass of margarita he ordered." I fight. And if you don't mind could you stop talking to me for a while? Sage asked. Kent nodded and kept sipping on his drink. Sage took her jacket preparing to leave the bar. "Wait, can I drive you home , As an apology for acting like a jerk." he offered. Sage looked at Kent and ignored him. "You know you too are annoying." Kent said following her . "I already called a cab , thank you." She said walking towards the exit. " I was just trying to apologize."Kent said to Sage while she was walking away
