Chapter Six

820 Words
Amelia's POV: I jolted awake to the sound of the alarm. 8 o'clock. My head was throbbing from exhaustion and lack of sleep. But a new day's a new day. I got up, freshened up and being too lazy to cook something real, whipped up a sandwich for breakfast. Dressed up for work, I took my bag, locked my house and headed for Cafe de Amour. I've been working part time here for 2 years already. Thanks to the government reducing minimum work age to 14. "Hey Amy.... Gosh you look terrible! Working hard for the Entrance is good and all but you should be alive to attend it!" It was Hanah. My only co-worker at Cafe de Amour. The only noble and one of the very few people who cares about me. She's my best friend and there is nothing about me she doesn't know except... "Hanah! You won't believe what happened last night!" "Please don't tell me you ran into trouble again!" "I'm sorry, but I did." And I tell her last night's unbelievable turn of events. "Are you serious now?! Prince Richard Blaize?!" "Keep it down Hanah!" I whisper shouted at her. "Okay, okay, okay. Goddamit girl! You're so lucky! You got saved by a prince from the bad guys, just like in fairy tales." she says dramatically dreamily. "Oh please! I've never met a spoilt brat like him in my life." I scoffed. "The fateful encounter has happened. Now you guys will meet again, fall in love, get married, become king and queen and live happily ever after!" "Whoa whoa whoa, chill. Where in the world are you going with this? Get a hold on your imaginations. And moreover he was so annoying and arrogant. No wonder he's single." "Amy, you've gotta go easy on him. It isn't his fault. Considering the circumstances he was brought up in, he must have been totally oblivious about how much his words could hurt you." "Whatever, I'm never gonna meet him again anyway. So case closed. Now, let's get some serious work done. Are you up?" "Got nothing else to do." And then we got to work. I love it here. Ignoring some sleazy customers, Cafe de Amour has a beautiful and serene ambience. "Bye Hanah. Take care." "You take care." "Yeah yeah right." After my shift I walk towards White High library in the afternoon sun. Beep beep. Oh its my phone. Its half past six. I return the book I had been reading from and headed home. Only to find the last person I expected to see at my doorstep. Yes. It was him. "What are you doing here your highness?" I asked pretty irritated. I was tired from the day's work and wasn't in the mood to play with him. "Whoa, easy girl. Calm down." "I'm not a horse your highness." "Then stop acting like one. And I told you to call me Richard." "Fine. What are you doing here Richard?" "I'll get straight to the point. You wish to clear the White High Entrance, don't you?" "Yes. What has that to do with you?" "Geez, is this how you talk to someone who saved your life?" 'I didn't ask you to!' or so I wanted to say but he was right. I don't even wanna think what would've happened if he hadn't shown up. "Yes I wish to clear it. What is it that you want to say about it?" He glided down the front stairs and retrieved a sword from his belt and threw it to me. I caught it out of fear of it cutting me. The fire nation swords are known to be the sharpest in the world! "Your passion moves me. And I think it would be such a waste if you can't clear the Entrance because of a skill you didn't have means to acquire. So I plan on teaching you the basics of the skill of sword combat." Unbelievable! The finest swordsman of all lands wants to teach ME sword fighting?! This is too good to be real! "I'm not dreaming. Am I?" He just smiled and came closer. 'What is he doing?! Doesn't he know of the notion of personal space?' But then he suddenly pinched my cheek. Hard. "Oww! What in the world was that for?!" "Was that proof enough that this isn't a dream?" "Ugh. You're unbelievable." "Alright. Chit chat time's up. Now focus. You don't hold a sword like that." He walked towards me and stood behind me. Then took the sword from my hand and repositioned in a different angle and closed my fingers around the hilt with his fingers over mine. When he was this close, it was impossible to not notice his impeccable profile. And boy did he have strong arms. It definitely was difficult to concentrate but I had to, for my father.
