Richard's POV:
I waited impatiently outside the trial room as she changed.
Amelia.
'How can a girl this perfect exist? Norman wasn't entirely wrong when he said she was goddess-like. Almost... too perfect. Those curves of hers are impossible. Long lashes curved perfectly and jet black hair that fell in perfect curls. I mean is she for real? And that mark on her chest... She's clearly of ice clan royal blood. These self absorbed royals! How mean can they be?! What do they think of themselves irresponsibly having affairs and living extravagant lives while their child suffers living as an outcast...'
I was too angry that my Laevatein materialised. I didn't even realise it until Norman shook me out of my thoughts.
"Richie! Richie! Stop! Calm down. You'll burn down my shop!"
I looked down. My axe was on fire. That's rare. It happens only when I lose control. Why was I so worked up about something I knew since I was born?
I suddenly dematerialised Laevatein even though I was still confused. Why did that happen?
"Richie, what's wrong?! What made you so angry? This is the first I've ever seen Laevatein on fire. Are you okay? What were you thinking about? Is it your father? Did he get you mad again? Or did he wage another war? Or-"
"I'm fine. I'm fine. Sorry I almost burned down your shop okay? And don't ask so many questions at..."
I stopped short when I saw her. My throat suddenly went dry.
She looked absolutely stunning. Thank the heavens my jaw didn't fall open. I was dumbstruck and stood staring at her for a while.
"Umm... Do I look weird?" She asked insecure as she returned my cloak.
'No way! You look like a goddess!'
"No. You look a lot better than you did in those torn clothes. And that's all that matters."
I turned to Norman putting my cloak back on.
"Thank you, I guess I'll stop by later. But I need to go now."
"Don't you have to pay for this?" she asked as the three of us walked towards the exit. I opened my mouth to answer but Norman beat me to it.
"This dress is on the house. A gift for letting me lay my eyes on an angel like you milady." He said placing a kiss on her hand making her blush lightly. "I hope you drop by again so that we can get closer." He said with a wink. 'You sly little bisexual!'
"No thanks. Now if you'll excuse us, I'll take her home!"
I almost spat those words at him. Evidently he didn't see that coming. Amelia looked shocked too. Well, whatever.
We walked in silence. Watching her walk, I couldn't take my eyes of her. The elegant way her hips moved made it look like she was dancing. Her jet black hair fell like a waterfall basked in the moonlight, rustling gracefully along with the rhythm of her hips.
I knew she was pretty frightened of me by now. If anyone was going to break the silence, it had to be me.
"So, why do you live alone when you can live at the institute? At least you won't be this lonely and you could have friends who'll know your pain."
"I might be an outcast. You could call it my arrogance but I can't stand being pitied. I can handle solitude but not pity. But as you can see, it comes with a price."
Strong words, but expressed simply and in an elegant tone. If she wasn't born the way she was, she would've made a very fine queen.
"So, why do you want to enter White High so badly? You do know their valuation of lower class students are not fair right?"
"Yes. That is exactly why I want to attend it. I'll do it so well that no matter how hard they try, they can't fail me. I want to teach them the lesson that knowledge does not belong to just a faction of people, it belongs to everyone. Lets meet in school later this year."
Resolute, strong and ambitious. She'll definitely create an impact someday. 'Wait a minute. Did she just say let's meet in school?'
"How do you know I attend White High? Asphaltan royals usually do their schooling in The Atlantis Academy in Asphalta."
"Well, the library provides personal info on the top ten rank holders of the Sword Combat Championship of the past century, that is since 3116. You've been the champion for the past five years."
"Impressive. The girl does her research well." I said sarcastically. 'Of course she'd know. Why am I acting so stupid?!'
"There's something that has been bugging me for a while." I said.
She gave me a confused look but encouraged me to go on.
"That mark on your chest, you clearly have royal genes. That also means you have a soul sword. Why didn't you use it to protect yourself from those men? And the blue moon in your eyes mean you're one of the gifted, so you could've also used your ice-bending against them. Why didn't you do either?"
She looked annoyed.
"Ice-bending? Why do you think I have practice in controlling my powers when you know I'm an outcast? Are you really oblivious to the disaster that could happen if a royal loses control of her powers? And the soul sword, I don't wanna run around and tarnish the clean image of the Valerian royals now, would I? And also its not like I know how to wield it." She said pretty annoyed and with a tint of sarcasm.
She was panting. I guess I really was thoughtless asking that to an outcast. 'But hey! Its not like I know how to talk to them. She is a first!'
But suddenly her eyes widened and she bowed low.
"Please forgive me your highness, I didn't mean to yell at you. Anyway what's an Asphaltan prince doing here?" She asked with genuine curiosity.
"Isn't that obvious? I attend White High as a resident scholar. And I'm here tonight because my father wanted me to relay a message to King Chrysler and saw you getting cornered when I was on my way back."
"Uh okay. I didn't need to know all that. Do you always talk so much?"
"No. I don't know why I'm doing it now either."
Suddenly she stopped. Thats when I looked around. We were in front of a dilapidated house. There were no other buildings around. Just trees. Endless woods. Strange.
"How did you manage to get a villa like this alone? I mean you're just 16 or 17 right?"
"I'm 16. I don't know either. Block in my head remember? You should probably return. Its really late."
"Yeah. You're right."
I took my phone from my jeans pocket. Oops it was silent. No wonder it didn't bother me so far.
"45 missed calls and 96 texts?! Man this is record! I really have to go if I don't wanna die. Goodnight."
'I'm sure the dorm warden Calaghan would be pissed. The only reason he wouldn't inform dad is the fact that he would wage war against Valeria if he comes to know. Hehe, sometimes his petty temper is quite helpful.'
