The Change

We said our Goodbyes and they started walking away and I ran back towards my house. It had only been a little over 2 hours since I left, but it felt like days. So much had changed since I left. I could hear my parents worried voices inside. “She should be back by now, she knows that she needs food. She is probably starving.” “Ann, she might have gone out to eat. Lets not worry until we know something is wrong. Let's be quiet for a second and see if we can hear her somewhere.” I decided to hurry in, they shouldn’t have to worry more than they already are, and I knew they would be able to hear me. I ran through the back door, my mom's eyes quickly found mine. “Danny, get in here.” She was panicked. I knew I looked bad. My clothes were ripped and covered in blood. My hair was matted and covered with sweat. My dad came running towards me, “Are you ok, was it demons. Why are you hurt? What happened?” He was looking at me with fear in his eyes. “Yes dad I'm fine, right place, right time. I saved a boy and his mother.” I told them all of what happened. I told them how I changed early, how I fought and killed this man Chaz and that I didn't know what he was. I told them about Bobby and Marleene. I told them everything, and they just stared at me. It was quiet for about 5 minutes when I finally said, “Say something please. Mom, Dad? What's happened to me? What do we do? I need your help.” They stared at me and then stared at each other. Finally Dad said, “Ann you should call your mother.” My Mom looked at him and nodded. She walked into the other room and called my Grandmother, Lorna. My Dad made me lunch, I didn't realize how hungry I was until he set 2 sandwiches, chips, and fruit in front of me. It was gone in a few bits, and my stomach was still growling. My mother let me know that the rest of the original bloodline family would be coming to have a meeting. I ran upstairs and took a shower. Every time I ran my face under the water, I could see the blood coming out of him, I saw the life run out of his eyes and Chaz dying under me. I felt like I couldn't get clean. I finally decided it wasn't going to get better. I was standing in front of the mirror and I noticed, I have changed. My face was more serious, my jawline and cheekbones stood out more. I had more muscle on my arms, legs and stomach. My eyes seemed less childlike and more alert. I was looking more like my mother than before. I knew parts of it was from the change, other parts from the experience and pain from today. I will never be the same. My side was still tender where his silver knife cut into my skin. It was still healing, unlike the rest of me that healed so quickly. It was hard pulling on a shirt, but I managed. I decided to wear a black short sleeve v-neck t-shirt with my black workout pants. I wanted comfort and morning. It looked like I was ready for training though. I walked down stairs and most of the family bloodline was sitting in the living room. I knew others were farther away, most wouldn't be able to come. There is a battle everywhere, not just in our small town. My Grandma rubbed my arm and said “Nice job in your first battle. You are a true warrior, there is a few things you should know though. Please come have a seat with us.” I looked around the room My Uncle Christon was sitting by my Mom with his wife Erica, My Aunt Anita was sitting beside my Dad, she was a Demon hunter like he was. Pure skill taught not born given abilities. My Aunt Linda, Uncle Jacob, a lot of my mothers family was there. They knew more things about werewolves than my dad's side. I sat on the couch next to my Cousin Sara and her children who were still too young to have gone through the change. My Grandma started talking then. “I have contacted some of our family that knows more about this. They think Lydia might have a great destiny laid ahead of her. She is the first of our kind to change early. Is it from the situation she was involved with today and for her will to live and save others? Or is she a chosen one? They believe she is the one the prophet sisters have been talking about! As most of you know the sisters have been talking for over 500 years about the Greater Wolf. The Greater wolf will have more control over their abilities and will lead the wolves in the fight against dark. They think that Lydia is the Greater Wolf.” She ended looking at me with a smile. This is not right, I don't want to be anything. I barely even want to be a werewolf. What does this mean that I'm destined for greatness. The prophet sisters aren't on either side, they aren't of light or dark. They are just the watchers of our destinies. They are triplets that have been around since shortly after the fight between God and Lucifer. They didn't have parents either, they were born from the earth. Do I doubt them, normally no. “How do they know? What does this mean? They have to be wrong. I'm not a Greater wolf!” My Niece Angel who was sitting on the floor in front of me climbed in my lap. She doesn't speak much, but she hugged me and told me “Lydia, you have always been great to me. You must be the greater wolf.” I smiled at her, and didn't want to tell my little niece she was wrong, and that I was bad. My grandmother continued. “Lydia, we must take you to the prophet sisters, they have requested your presence.” I went to argue. “You know you can not refuse, but I told them to give us two weeks. One to get more training for what risks the adventure will take and one for the journey itself. The sisters live on top of a hidden mountain in the deepest depths of the jungle in the sss. They are protected by many traps and trickery. You will need to prepare, no time to waste.” I have never planned on meeting the prophet sisters, and I knew the journey some can't bare. I just nodded and started to head towards the basement for training. Most of my family stayed to help me train. My grandma helped me work with my mind. We would meditate and she was teaching me to block out the excess noise and hear what I wanted or needed to hear instead. She was impressed at how well I did at this. She also let me know that there would be trickery in our way and I couldn't let my mind get lost. She worked on me focusing on what's real and not. She told me to close my eyes and think of 1 thing that I could see, touch, and smell that I know is real. Every time I closed my eyes I could see the boy Bobby's eyes, I remembered how my arms tingled when his skin touched mine, and I remember the smell of his sweat when he hugged me. No matter how hard I tried to push him out of my mind, he kept coming back up. My Uncle Derk and my Dad worked on hand combat. I was surprised at how good I was at it. It scared me though every time I lunged at one of them, I was afraid I would hurt them. “Ha you hurt us yea right little girl,” My uncle would joke. “You are doing great honey, you actually have really great control.” We kept going over different moves, and they kept switching me from attack to defense. In defense I wasn't as skilled, my uncle kept jabbing me in the ribs, kidneys, and back. It was annoying me, and I started to get really frustrated. I moved to block him from jabbing me in the gut and instead got jabbed in the throat with one hand and the other hit my wound on my side. The pain made something snap, I opened my eyes and immediately focused on him. He stepped back looking at me, “Lydia you're OK, calm down.” I saw my Dad step closer holding his hands out at his side, I didn't understand why they looked afraid of me, I felt more alert but that's it. “What, what is wrong with you two? I’m fine!” My Dad looked at me and said, “Are you OK to continue?” I nodded, and he nodded slowly. He started to approach, he did a basic attack and I blocked it, we worked on it building on attacks. In 15 minutes I was blocking both my Dad and uncle at the same time. It came effortless all of a sudden, I felt more alert. I could sense their movements and I blocked them naturally. My mother hollered down that dinner was ready. I snapped my head in the direction of her voice and realized that my eyes were focusing on everything. Even the ant under the stairs, I could see it. I turned to the mirror by the punching bag. My eyes that were once a light brown are now a bright yellow. They were wolf eyes, but the rest of me was in human form. I shut my eyes and shook my head, I breathed deep, and let out slowly. When I opened my eyes they were back to normal, and my Dad was standing right behind me smiling. “You are very talented, already while beyond your training.” I didn't know what to say. I smiled back at him as he gave me a kiss on my head. “Let's go eat.” During dinner we all talked about what might happen tonight. It's supposed to be my first transformation, but since I have already transformed what will happen? We decided to set up and be prepared for the transformation like it was the first. That evening we set up the cell in the basement with a cot, blanket, and pillow. If the transformation was like a normal transformation I wouldn't sleep much, but my parents felt like I needed comfort. They set up 2 cots right outside the cell so I wouldn't be alone. The cell had silver bars and a thick silver chain lock. My Aunt Anita was the one to lock me in so my parents didn't have to touch it. If we touch silver it would burn our skin slightly, like a sunburn. My Aunt looked at me for a moment with rheumy eyes, “You have already made us all so proud, good luck tonight.” “Thank you” was all I managed to get out. She said her goodbyes to my parents and left the three of us in the basement by ourselves. Me and my parents sat there talking for an hour and than I felt my eye lids dropping as I had become very tired. I laid in my cot and wrapped myself in the blanket. All I could smell was the dust on the cot mattress. I could hear my parents quietly talking about the plan for the next two weeks, about training and the journey to the profit sisters. I started to drift off, it could only be around 9 o'clock. Then I started to dream. Bobby was standing on top of a mountain, with the sun blazing around him. His blonde hair shining like gold and the green around his eyes was bright against the dark insides. He smiled at me and held out his hand, “Come Lydia, we need to prepare for greatness.” I was confused but I took his hand, it was rough with calluses from hard work, yet it still sent sparks all the way up my arm. What is it about this boy? “How, what greatness? What am I supposed to do?” He laughed at my questions. “Lydia don't you get it, you just need to remember who you are. You are a girl that saves people she doesn't even know, you are kind and compassionate yet strong and determined. You are greatness in itself, Never forget that!” He smiled and stepped away from me, leaving me alone on top of this mountain. Day quickly turned to night a full moon was high above me. I felt my hands turn to claws, my body grow and change. I felt my teeth become sharp and my eyes change shape. I let out a howl and than opened my eyes. I was standing back in my basement, not as a human but as a wolf. My parents were standing outside the cell looking in. My mom's mouth was open like she was surprised, and my dad had wide eyes. What is going on? Why do they look so shocked, this is normal. I am supposed to change. My Dad was the first to speak, “Lydia are you OK? Are you calm?” I nodded, I was fine I understood everything that happened. He said “alright then, let me show you something.” He walked away and grabbed the big mirror off the wall. He brought it over to the cell and turned it around so I could see myself. I was astonished. I was taller than the tallest wolf I've met by a foot at least. I had long flowing white hair, when all wolves are black, brown, grey and auburn in color. My eyes were a bright yellow. I must be different. I remembered my dream, I am determined to be greatness! I shut my eyes and embraced that I am different, I am great and I am light. I felt my body shrink and change. When I opened my eyes I was human again. I looked at my mother and saw a tear in her eye, and my Dad was smiling again. “You are the greater wolf, and I can not be more proud. You have a long journey a head of you.” My mother said through a lump in her throat I saw her try to swallow. “Let's get some rest” My Dad said with a big grin on his face. I laid back down on my cot, and I quickly fell back asleep, without any dreams.
