It wasn’t even nine o’clock yet so the beach was empty, silent. Lady’s walk was easy. I felt the shift of her hips with every step, felt her solid legs thunk beneath us. We rolled a little with her walk, our hips rocking. Her neck bobbed and every once in a while she snorted; I couldn’t figure out why. It made me smile, though. “How’d you learn about horses, anyway?” I asked. I sighed and pressed closer to Steven, a great place to be. The weather had been sunny and bright, cheerful for our little trip to get away from Tampa—good bed weather.
