HAILEY SUMMERS For as long as I can remember, I have never gotten up so late. It wasn’t because I enjoyed my night, as a matter of fact, it was very far from it. I couldn’t bring myself to get up from the bed, knowing what I was going to do. I just could not help myself from tossing and turning through the night, desperate to come up with a better idea than selling myself. Unable to come up with any, I finally summoned the courage to face the day. As I walked through the campus, everywhere was almost silent. You could feel the impact of the results that were released yesterday. Everyone was either having classes or sitting around, studying, or hanging around silently. There was silence. I had no intention of attending any classes for today. I was just going to meet him, tell him my decision and leave. Once I was in his building, I suddenly started to shake from inside. Each vein in my body pumping really hard as I approached the secretary’s table. “I’m here to see Professor Wyatt,” I said, trying to sound calm, as I waited for the lady behind the desk to look up. ‘There was no turning back now, I guess,’ I subconsciously said to myself, only to be told he was busy and to come back later. This might have been the universe’s way of telling me to rethink my decision. Just as I nodded and turned around to leave, his door opened and a student I recognized from my literature class walked out. It was not looking good. She couldn’t even look up at me. Were those tears? ‘Was she also here for the same reason? What did…’ I was stopped in my thoughts as he came out of his office, looking straight at me, flashing a pleased smile.. “Ah. You’re here. Miss…,” he trailed off, obviously forgetting my name. “Hailey. Hailey Summers,” I finished for him. He just nodded and faced the secretary. “Let Steven know I’ll be running a little late,” and he beckoned to me “Follow me.” I just nodded and followed him, embarrassed at what the secretary was thinking. “Make yourself comfortable,” he smiled as he sat down, motioning to the chairs in front of his desk. “So?” he asked, getting straight to the point. “I’m here for what we discussed the last time,” I said picking at my nails, trying to relax my nerves as I sat down. “And?” He raised an eyebrow. God! I was so disgusted. “I am willing to accept your terms,” I was looking down at my nails, trying to avoid his eyes. I could swear he was smiling. “Oh. You don’t have to you know?” I raised my eyes to meet his. Was he serious? Of course he wasn’t. He was smirking and obviously enjoying this. I really couldn’t believe this was happening. “Have you given it a thought?” “Yes sir. I will do it.” “Okay then. I will revise your grade to an A.” I sighed with relief, but it was brief as I immediately looked down in embarrassment of what I’d signed into. “But you should know that this will continue to happen for as long as you want the A to remain.” I couldn’t even say a word. I was struggling to hold back tears. “I’m hoping you do not have a boyfriend or someone you’re intimate with, because I do not want any sort of interruptions or drama. No emotions. Plus, you spill, I undo your grade,” he didn’t even give any opportunity to respond he just continued “Most importantly, clear whatever you have on your schedule, we’ll be meeting three times weekly. Any day of my choice, and I’ll be doing whatever I want with you,” with this, he finally paused and gave me a good stare. I could barely even raise my eyes to meet him now. “You also have to fix your looks. We don’t want anyone thinking I’m forcing you into this and I’m not babysitting here.” Still no response. “You can still opt out if you’re not okay with it.” Now this got words out of me. “I’ll do whatever is necessary.” “Then speak up if you have anything to say.” “You said we will be meeting three times a week?” “Yes? You have a problem with that?” “I have part time jobs sir. It will be difficult to make it three times.” “Well, that’s what I want. I’ll triple whatever you are paid,” and with that he turned his system to me. “Hailey Summers” I looked at it. He was showing me a list of names and scores I guess? Then I saw my name. Right there, in the middle and something was different. I had an A. The F that almost ruined my entire life was no longer there. I now had an A. “You see? It’s that simple. You give me what I want, I give you what you want. No one has to lose anything,” he relaxed into his seat, giving me a full glimpse of his chiseled chest exposed behind his baby pink shirt that was neatly rolled up to his arms. This was not utterly a bad decision. I tried to see the good in it. Although I was selling myself to someone that couldn’t care less for me, I was going to be able to afford my mom’s hospital bills, reapply for the scholarship with a good result, and I could finally get a break from all these part time jobs and if I’m to be completely honest, he’s not so bad of a person, at least when it comes to looks. Who was I kidding ? He was perfect. His personality was just the opposite. “Do I need to sign anything sir?” I asked, hopeful that he would keep his promise. “Ahhh…of course not. Your grade is enough. Whatever goes wrong will be on it. Are we good?” “Okay sir,” with trembling hands I got up. “I should get going sir,” I pushed my seat back in from where I met it initially. “What’s with the rush. Didn’t we have a deal?” he spoke with so much cockiness as he rose to his feet, walking straight to me. With every step he took towards me, I took two away until I was stopped by the door. “Are you suddenly having a change of mind dear?” he was now hovering above me, his six feet stature looming large over my average frame. I could feel his heat on my face as he whispered every word. “No. Not at all sir,” I swallowed hard and raised my eyes to meet his trying my possible best to make show him I was in. “When do we begin?” “I like that. Smart,” he brought his face closer as he held my chin, staring deep into my eyes. Then he turned his gaze to my lips. “Immediately.” I tried not to think of what was about to happen as I began to take note every reaction of my other body parts in an attempt to distract myself, like my hands holding on to his chest as if my life depended on it and how my throat grew its own heart as it started to beat on its own. At this point, my breathing was really loud and uncontrollable. I impulsively looked into his eyes, looking to see if he could hear it too. Oh my goodness! His eyes were so blue and boring into mine. Before I could read any expression, he crushed his lips against mine with so much force that if I wasn’t so prepared for this, I’d have probably lost ground. His lips immediately started to seek entrance into my mouth, leaving me with no option but to give him as I held unto his shirt tighter, struggling to stand upright. He immediately seized the moment, his tongue delving into mine with passion. His hand slipped to my neck, holding it firmly and in place. I could taste the mint on his tongue as he ravished mine. As I subconsciously raised one of my hands to his hair, he pulled away abruptly, his heat fading away. He looked at me from head to toe, smirked and walked back to his seat, leaving my heart racing really hard and fast like a wild horse and my thoughts in a jumbled mess as I could still feel the heat of his lips on mine. “See you later, Miss Summers,” his focus remained on his phone, oblivious to the chaos my mind and body was in. I pulled myself together, lowered my gaze and walked out.
