I   As their mission progresses, so with the attraction for Cresilda that William is trying to control. He knows very well that having such feelings with his mission partner is taboo considering that she is a married woman already.   William grim as his thoughts have been filled with regrets as to why he came in late in Cresilda’s life.   As he heard his phone ring, he immediately picked it up inside his pocket and checked who is calling him in this wee hour. It is past midnight already. He is still awake because he could not really sleep. He even tried to study, as he is currently taking his Bachelor of Laws also at the University of the Philippines, but to no avail. He could not understand every article in the book that he is trying to comprehend and memorize. The caller is his Dad. “Hello, Dad.”   “William, please visit the office tomorrow, I will need your help on something.” His father said on the other line.   “No problem Dad, I will pass by your office tomorrow morning. Right now, I need to say goodbye as I am really sleepy. Bye Dad, you take care and Mom.” He then hanged-off his phone after his father bade goodbye too.   At the onset that he took up his law studies, he decided already to occupy one of their condominium units nearby his school in Quezon City, Philippines. He does not want to travel far, since their home is in Pasig City. Traffic wise, it is also not advisable to travel from Pasig City to Quezon City every day. His being a part-time police secret agent is not known even to his parents.   He is the only son of his parents and he knows very well that his parents would not agree if they will know what kind of part-time work he is involved with right now. Aside from the fact that it is risky, he does not need to really work. His parents could lavishly provide him with everything that he needs.   The next day, William received a call from Cresilda. His heart sprinted. It really made his day to be more brilliant. Cresilda told him about the new updates on the case that they are investigating. According to her, they have a new suspect; a male receptionist of the old and cheap hotel that they are checking in regularly, posing as lovers.   Whistling, he left his condominium unit, got his Volvo car in the building’s parking lot, and headed towards his father’s office; to their Company actually.     II   Upon arrival at the Reynoso’s Steeling Company, William walked straight to the CEO’s office, while answering some greetings from the staff along the way.   He knocked thrice before finally opening the door of his father’s office.   “Dad, hello, your handsome son is here.” Teasingly, he said upon entering his father’s office room.   His father laughed while motioning to him to get inside quickly.   “What it is Dad? Any problem?” He asked while seating at the edge of his father’s executive table.   “No, not at all. It’s just that your Mom will be soon celebrating her 59th birthday. Well, I hope you remembered.” His father looked at him questioningly. “Of course Dad, I remembered Mom’s birthday so well. It will be next week.” He confirmed.   “Yes, I have arranged everything with regards to her surprise birthday party. I just have a problem with what to give her as a gift. Can you help me, son? Would this set of diamonds still fit your Mom?” His Dad asked while showing to him a diamond set of jewelry on his laptop.   “That’s beautiful Dad, but I guess Mom would not anymore appreciate that. She has a lot of that already.”   “Hmm, any other thing that will make her happy?”   “Most probably not a thing but a grandchild.” William laughed at his joke.   His father suddenly looked at him beaming with a smile. “Yes, I guess so. Give us a grandchild then, soonest son.”   William laughed so loud that his father could not contain to laugh too.   “What’s wrong William? You are of age to get married already.”   “Dad, I want to finish first my law school. Besides, I don’t have time for a girlfriend yet.”   “Ows? Really?” His Dad seems not convinced.   “Yes. Although I have seen the woman I like already, but not quite sure how I could pursue her. It’s complicated still.”   His Dad’s eyes narrowed. “What do you mean?”   “Oh, you will know later Dad. Meantime, let’s think of something that will make Mom so happy on her birthday.” William suddenly changed the topic.   “Alright, so what do you think? His father inquired again while browsing on his laptop.   “Hmm, Dad, I guess I need to ask a woman first. So, right now, I will go ahead and give you a call this afternoon. Alright, Dad?” He winked at his father who frowned as a reply to him.   “William, how many times will I tell you to replace me already as the CEO of this Company? Work here so that you can be able to learn the ins and outs of this business.” His father lamented; sadness filled his heart. His only son seems to have no interest in their Company. His only consolation is that their only daughter, their youngest child is somewhat interested as she even tried working part-time now as his personal assistant.   “Dad, I will okay? But as I have said before, let me achieved first my first dream in life. I wanted to become a lawyer first before being a CEO of this Company.” William’s final word to his father before excusing himself from him, who finally let him go.   As William has been driving his car going to his law school, he suddenly spotted someone familiar crossing the pedestrian lane, when the traffic green light signal blinked. His forehead furrowed as he followed with his gaze the man who is walking on the Pedestrian with a woman beside him, holding on tightly to his right arm.   He saw that man once and he cannot be wronged. His eyes are still with 20-20 vision and he was able to see his face clearly. His jaw tightened and his teeth gritted.    William could not fathom why there are still idiots in this world, just like that man he saw.
