Chapter Fifteen – Ashes and Inheritance

433 Words
It started with whispers. Then came the phone calls that never connected. Then the cold stares in hallways Elena used to walk through unnoticed. Someone had opened a floodgate. And it wasn’t just about Damian anymore. --- Three days after Damian announced Valeon Ventures’ official launch, Elena received a call from her landlord. Her rent check bounced. Not because she didn’t have the funds. But because her account had been frozen. Two hours later, her mother called. Tears. Panic. The small stipend Celeste received as a long-time housekeeper at Vale Estate? Revoked. Effective immediately. No warning. No reason. --- Elena stood in the center of her apartment, the walls suddenly too thin, the silence pressing like a bruise. Victor Vale wasn’t just a father. He was a king who knew how to make you bleed quietly. --- Damian burst into her office later that night. “I didn’t know—Elena, I swear I didn’t—” “I know,” she said. But her voice wasn’t calm. It was tired. “Your father doesn’t care about legacy,” she added. “He cares about punishment.” Damian’s jaw clenched. “Then he’s going to get it.” He slammed a thick black binder on her desk. Inside: files. Documents. Emails. Years of buried financial trails Victor thought were invisible. “I’m going to the press,” he said. “With or without the board. With or without the risk. I’m done being afraid of the man who made me.” Elena stared at the documents, then at him. “You’re willing to burn it all down?” He nodded. “If it means no one else has to live under his shadow... yes.” She hesitated. Then reached into her drawer and pulled out a USB. Damian frowned. “What’s that?” “My old journals,” she said. “The ones I kept during my internship. Notes, screenshots. I was too afraid to come forward before. Not anymore.” For the first time in their twisted story, they stood side-by-side. Not as heir and intern. Not as lovers lost in guilt. But as warriors with nothing left to lose. --- That night, they leaked everything. To the press. To a journalist Damian once protected from his father’s reach. By morning, the headlines screamed: > “King of Lies: Victor Vale’s Empire Under Investigation” Whistleblowers Emerge in Explosive Corporate Scandal And beneath the title—photos of both Elena and Damian. Together. Unbroken. --- But revolutions don’t end in headlines. They end in fire. And Victor Vale? Wasn’t going down quietly.
