Chapter 10-3

2164 Words

I don’t find much, but I’m not any worse off than before. Sometimes the best you can do is all you can do. And with my skulking clothes torched, hopefully I’ll be in and out in a flash. The sound of someone outside the office sends me into high alert. I crouch down, draw my handgun, and wait. There’s a small click as the outer door opens slowly. I draw down, using an armrest to steady my aim, sighting for where a human’s torso would be. That will take care of anything human-size, dwarves and elves will get shot in the head, and trolls will get shot in the crotch. A good bet all the way round. A dark figure slips inside, easing the door closed behind it. I pull the trigger once. A glowing blue orb hits the i***t square in the back, and boy does it feel good. He goes down without a sound.
