“Wow is right,” she exclaimed. “I knew she was crazy about James, but not enough to marry him. At least not this soon.”
“Well, she did say yesterday really changed their lives,” Matt reminded her as he held open the door. Sarah frowned at the plausibility of that answer.
“Think there’s more to it than that?” he said as they walked across the parking lot.
“I know Maria’s parents are really strict,” she said. “They’ve always controlled her life. She’s never made a decision on her own.”
“Think that’s motivation enough to get married?”
“Could be,” Sarah shrugged. “Maybe she thinks this is her chance to escape.”
They slid into Matt’s car and he turned the keys in the ignition. He peered at Sarah, his brown eyes full of concern.
