Chapter Two
You Are Mine!
"Let's get a divorce!" Those words came out of Reina's mouth calmly. No, she did not feel wronged.
She did not feel as terrible as she thought she would when she finally talked to him about the divorce.
On the contrary, she felt as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulders.
She has loved this man for eight years, since she was seventeen years old. She stayed married to him for three years, trying to salvage whatever was left of their waning relationship
But she is just human. And humans are selfish. She loved him while expecting something in return. She wanted him to love her back.
But it seems that in this life, something like that will never be possible.
After losing everything in one day, Reina has never asked for much before. She just wanted to find a man to live a stable life before she met Lucas.
When she met him, her entire life revolved around him.
She just wanted to stay back home to take care of their kids and wait for him to come back.
It seems that she was thinking too much….that kind of life will never be possible between the both of them.
She should learn to give up now.
Lucas looked at the face of the woman who was looking at him calmly. The usual adoration that was on her face whenever she looked at him wasn't there today.
It made him feel like he was missing something…. although he did not want to admit it.
He looked at the divorce papers that she threw at him. It clearly said that she won't be taking anything from him. She doesn't even need alimony or anything of the sort.
She just wants a clean break with him.
Ha! Like he will ever believe that Reina wants to leave him alone now!
"Do you really have to stoop this low, Reina? Using a divorce to annoy me? Do you think that it will work?" Lucas asked.
Reina looked up at Lucas. "What are you talking about?" Her indifferent face finally showed some emotions.
Doesn't he want the divorce?
Well, Lucas has always been someone who hates being asked to do something.
Even if it's for the sake of his pride, he won't give her a divorce easily. She was prepared for that.
But what does he mean by using a divorce to annoy him?
"What are you talking about? I don't understand!" Reina said.
"You don't understand? I'm pretty sure that you understand! Do you think that you'll be able to get my attention by doing this?! You've been awfully quiet lately, I thought that you've finally gotten sensible, to think that it's just an excuse for you to pull something like this! Do you think that this will make me change my impression of you? Dream on Reina! If you know what's good for you, you'll be quiet and just keep living as my wife!" Lucas said. His words were as hurtful as they could get.
Lucas did not understand why either but he immediately lost control of himself when he heard Reina bring up divorce.
What right does she have to demand a divorce from him?.
Isn't she the one who wants to get married to him the most?
What game is she playing this time?
Reina looked at Lucas in shock. Is this really want he thinks of her? He thinks that she's just using a divorce to get her attention?
"Lucas I don't care what your impression of me is but I really hope that you won't insult me like this! Yes, I've always been in your hair, I've always been an eyesore to you! Because of you, I even let go of my pride! I let go of my dignity to chase you! But no matter what, I won't bring up a divorce just to get your attention!" Reina said. She won't be that cheap!.
She has done a lot of cheap things for this man but she won't be so cheap as to use a divorce to get his attention!
For the past eight years, her life has revolved around this man. She did not want that anymore. She wanted to live for herself.
What is so wrong with that?
Lucas was stunned when he heard Reina say this. It seems that he was wrong……
But does she really want to divorce him?. He did not believe that! He did not believe it at all!
"Do you expect me to believe that you really want to leave me? Why? Didn't you say that you love me? Who was the person who wasn't embarrassed to confess her feelings in front of the whole world? What kind of game are you playing? Do you think that you'll get my sympathy by doing something like this?" Lucas asked.
Reina looked at Lucas. Right now, she really hates this man. She admits it…she has done a lot of crazy and stupid things…
But she wants to live for herself now! She doesn't want to be the dumb woman who is always chasing after Lucas!
"Yes! I was quite stupid because of you! But I thought things through. You and I…we are not meant for each other. I thought that I'll be able to love you without asking for anything in return. But it turns out that I'm very selfish. I can't do this anymore. Let's please get a divorce Lucas. It won't take anything from you. Not many people know we are married anyway. And besides, your grandfather never liked me. You married me just because you wanted an edge over your cousins during your fight for the inheritance. You already got what you wanted. You can let me go now. Let's let each other off" Reina said. She did not even have the strength to get angry at him.
She just wanted some peace in her life.
Lucas looked at Reina. The woman did not seem like she was pretending. She seemed like she was really serious about a divorce….
"No! I won't get a divorce!" Lucas suddenly said. He doesn't want to divorce her. Why should he?
Should he get a divorce just because she wants to?.
He has never been someone to conform to the wishes of someone else anyway.
Reina looked at Lucas in shock. What does he mean by this? He doesn't want a divorce?
"Why? Why don't you want a divorce? It's not like there are any feelings between us anyway. We got married just because you want someone to play the role of your wife. You got what you wanted. Why can't you let me go now?" Reina asked.
"Because you are my wife! Yes, I got married to you because I needed someone to play the role of my wife! But since we are already married, I don't have any intentions of getting a divorce!" Lucas said.
He got married because he needed someone to play the role of his wife but he never intended to divorce her at any point in time.
Since he was already married, he was determined to take responsibility for their marriage.
What divorce? He will never get a divorce!
"But we don't even love each other! Do you want to live the rest of our lives torturing each other?" Reina asked. She has known this man for eight years and she has been married to him for three years but she has never been able to know how his mind actually words.
Lucas snorted. Love? He did not need something like that.
What is love? It is just a tool for people to exploit the feelings of other people!
Her mother loved his father, but all that she got in the end was his heartless betrayal.
His grandfather claims to love him the most among all of his grandchildren but all that was because he is the most outstanding grandson!
He only chose him because he was sure that he could exploit him the most!
Diana claims to love him but it's just because she covets the position of the wife of Thunderbolt Corp!
The person that she loves isn't him, but the CEO of Thunderbolt Corp!
And Reina, even though she always says that she loves him…isn't she still planning to leave him in the end?
In this world, there is no such thing as love. Just a bunch of selfish humans trying to exploit each other under the guise of love!
"We don't need to love each other. We've already been married for three years anyway. Reina, to be sincere, you can't find another husband who is as good as me, and I can't be bothered to waste my time looking for another wife. So why should we get divorced? I've always been true to our marriage…what are you picking a fight for?" Lucas asked.
As far as he knew, it was all about benefits and profits. They can benefit each other so why should they get a divorce?
Reina shook her head. Lucas really thinks that she is just picking fights?
"Lucas, you say that you've always been true to our marriage? Let me ask you Lucas, we've been married for three years but how many times have you come here? Don't tell me that you've never betrayed our marriage Lucas, you've never done anything for it either!" Reina said.
Besides, as long as there's Diana in between the both of them they'll never get a happy ending.
Getting married was a mistake from the start. It's better to end things now while they still can.
Lucas did not say anything else after this for a short while.
He was thinking about what Reina said. She is right. He did ignore her after the both of them got married…but it was just that he was really busy.
It seems that he needs to reflect on this….
"You can't expect me to always stay by your side. But since we are already married, I'll try to put in some effort. As long as I'm not busy, I'll come back home at night" Lucas said.
This is the biggest compromise that he can make.
Reina suddenly laughed. To think that he is acting as if he is doing her some kind of favour.
"I'm sorry but I don't want to. I've waited for three years and I'm tired now. Let's get a divorce Lucas. I really can't anymore!" Reina said.
Lucas lost his temper when he heard this. He already compromised! What else does she want?
"I already compromised! I said I'll come back! What else do you want?!" Lucas yelled.
"I want your heart! Can you give it to me?!" Reina yelled back. .
Eight years…. eight long years of loving one person..
She admits that she is not as selfless as she thought.
Her love is not as pure as she thought it was. She wants this man to love her back!
Lucas suddenly went quiet. He could not…he could not give her that. How can he give someone else what he doesn't have?
"You see? You can't. I don't blame you Lucas. I'm the one who thought too much of myself and my charm. I don't want to keep living in a dream anymore. The last three years were like a sweet nightmare for me. I really need to wake up now. Let's get a divorce!" Reina said. .
She picked up a pen from the vanity table and signed her name on the divorce papers.
Then she passed it to Lucas.
"Here, let's put an end to our relationship," Reina said.
Lucas took the papers from her. But he didn't take the pen.
Reina didn't expect what he did next. He tore up the divorce papers.
"What did you do that for?!!" Reina yelled.
Lucas looked Reina in the eye. "I'll never get a divorce. Never! You, Reina, are mine!"
Saying this, the man's lips rudely crashed down on hers without a warning.
Reina tried to protest but in front of a man like Lucas, it was like throwing punches at a ball of cotton candy.
It had no effect at all.
Reina could feel her tears falling. She just wants a divorce. What's so bad about that?
