Chapter Four: “Unseen” She deleted the app first. Then the second one. Then the third. One by one, she erased the platforms that once made her feel seen — and now made her feel exposed. There was no escape in scrolling; every swipe felt like reopening the wound. Friends texted. Some sent voice notes full of pity. Some said, “Come online and clear the air.” A few said nothing — just watched her fall like a trending topic past its peak. She didn’t reply. The curtains stayed drawn. Food delivery bags piled by the door, barely touched. She slept in his hoodie, even though it stopped smelling like him days ago. The mirror in the hallway stopped reflecting her face — just a girl who loved too loud and trusted too deep. And the worst part? She still missed him. Even after what he did. Even after the wedding. Even after Lara’s smug smile in that designer gown. Memories were cruel — they didn’t care if the person was gone. They played on loop. The way he called her “mine.” The way Lara once said, “I’d fight the world for you.” Now she fought to stand up. One morning, she opened her inbox. Over 300 unread emails. Brands pulling out. Followers unfollowing. Even her backup page — the one she created years ago for poetry — had become a battlefield of opinions. “She deserved it.” “How could she not see it coming?” “She was too loud about their love.” “This is why you keep things private.” Everyone had something to say — except the two who should’ve said it first. No apologies. No explanations. Just silence and a ring. She stood in front of her bathroom mirror, pale and sunken, a toothbrush in one hand, nothing in the other. And she thought — What if this is it? What if this was the story? The rise, the crash, and no comeback. What if she never posted again, never trusted again, never felt again? The thought sat in her chest like wet cement. Until she heard the ping. Just one. An email. Subject line: “We see you. We believe in your voice. Let’s talk.” From: Arinze K. — CEO, Kora Publishing & Media. She stared at it for a long time. Was it spam? A scam? A setup? Or was it… a door?
