"FRESHMAN VS SOPHOMORE(8): DEFYING FATE(3)"

1818 Words
In the most confident counter Hikari had witnessed in her lifetime, her most powerful attacks faded into the dark abyss of shadows, the sounds of impact lost to the night. The shadows continued to spread across the ground, like ink on a blank page, until the whole arena was consumed in darkness. The radius of the shadows spread until it reached the outer edges of her terrain, leaving Hikari in a world of darkness. "Dark Echo," he christened his technique at its c****x, floating in the air; basking in the glory of his creation. Behind him emerged a large dark blue coin that rotated infinitely to symbolize that even in the midst of Typhon's Wrath, the endless stream of every outcome of fate was in his hands. Hikari could not believe her eyes as her opponent was more than able to conjure the same technique upon the severe damage he had sustained. 'Something's off about his Konkyuu,' she theorized. 'It's incomplete. It's as if he just laid the foundation of his technique rather than unleashing its full wrath, and even at that, he was still able to overwhelm my technique to the point of equalizing the potency terms,' a stream of thoughts flooded her mind. It dawned on her that she was indirectly mocked for her inferiority in the sheer power differences in their Konkyuu techniques. This caused her to rage as the endless noise of dark waves and lightning filled the terrain. "Hey Hikari!" He called out to her. "Sorry to interrupt your breakdown section, but I believe we have a match to conclude, don't you think?" He reminded her as the crowd roared in agreement. In a thrilling response, a dark lightning-charged trident emerged from the sky, handing itself to its master, vividly proposing a melee combat. Enjoying every blissful moment of her desperation, Yami joined his index and thumb fingers together on both hands. He aligned each finger to its matching hand, invoking a hand sign that summoned a divine weapon from the dark coin: a shadow scythe, supposedly replying to her proposal. With a smug look on both their faces, they windmilled their weapons and psyched themselves up for the second bout. With a sudden burst of energy, Hikari lunged forward, her thunder trident crackling with electric energy. Yami swiftly sidestepped, his shadow scythe slicing through the air in a graceful arc. The clash of their weapons sent sparks flying, illuminating the darkness around them. Hikari's eyes blazed with determination as she twirled her trident, striking down with lightning speed. Yami deflected the blows with precise movements of his scythe, his eyes cold and calculating. The trident's electricity danced along the scythe's blade, creating an eerie, flickering glow. With a swift sweep, Yami aimed to disarm Hikari. She anticipated his move, pivoting on her heel and using the trident's length to maintain her distance. Arcs of lightning erupted from her weapon, forcing Yami to retreat momentarily. Undeterred, Yami merged into the shadows, his form becoming almost imperceptible. Hikari's senses heightened, she spun in a circle, trident poised defensively. Yami's scythe materialized from the shadows behind her, but she reacted in time, parrying the strike just inches from her back. Their battle intensified, each clash of their unique weapons sending shockwaves through the air. Hikari's trident emitted brilliant bursts of lightning, illuminating her fierce expression. Yami's scythe left trails of darkness, leaving a haunting afterimage with each swing. As the fight raged on, Hikari's movements became more fluid, her strikes a harmonious dance of thunder and steel. Yami's scythe became a swirling vortex of shadow, his attacks unpredictable and deadly. They circled each other, weapons weaving intricate patterns in the terrain. With a newfound aggression, Yami launched an attack, showing off the versatility of his technique. The speed of Yami's attacks made it impossible for his opponent to keep track of him. Every time he struck, his opponent's vision was distorted, as if he were being hit by a dozen attackers at once. Yami's speed and precision were unmatched, and he delivered each blow with brutal efficiency. This incredibly pissed off Hikari, ultimately driving her to summon a variety of disasters that proved lethal to any opponent as she swung her weapon, but all were to no avail as he once again displayed his endless use of speed to overcome every obstacle she threw at him. Yami bolted towards Hikari. As he swung his scythe, five afterimages of the weapon flickered into existence, speeding towards Hikari like a volley of blades. Each phantom scythe bore the same crushing momentum as the original, threatening to overwhelm the young Daemon. In response to this onslaught, she found the opening she so desperately needed, drilling her trident through the air at incredible speed seemingly plunging her trident towards the heart of her opponent. To her shock, the weapon passed harmlessly through the figure, who disappeared into the darkness alongside his scythe. Her eyes widened in horror as the truth dawned on her - she had been fighting a mere illusion, the shadow of her true opponent. "Well, well, well," Yami's voice rang in the shadows. "I kinda feel sorry for you, Hikari," he taunted. "Did you honestly think that you could defy fate?" He questioned, as his cackle echoed in the air. "Since I'm feeling good right now, let's make a deal, shall we?" He proposed. "If you agree to fall right here and now, I promise to end this as painless as possible–" He was interrupted by the subtle noise Hikari made in the environment. The truth was as painful as it could get. She was as useless as she could possibly be against Yami, and it looked like she accepted her fate. "Fall? You want me to fall?" She asked. "You still don't truly fully understand the opponent whom you face so confidently," she announced. "Wherever you may be, I hope you hear these words: the only being ever created in this universe that can make me, the Disaster Core, bow in defeat is death himself," she proclaimed. In the epic c****x, her terrain seemed to have paused in time. With a final smirk, she began to fill her terrain with so much core energy that it was about to self-destruct. "But if you choose to do otherwise…" he continued, his grinned face appearing in the shadows unbeknownst to his adversary. As their laid out Konkyuu became unstable, Yami emerged from the shadows like a vengeful wraith, spinning mid-air with his scythe spinning like a deadly top as he hurtled towards his opponent. With a deafening c***k, the pointed edge of the weapon struck home, its momentum driving deep into the heart of his foe. The look of shock and disbelief on his opponent's face was almost worth the effort as blood gushed out from her mouth. "I'll end this as excruciating as possible," he proclaimed as the momentum of the core energy infused strike was enough to annihilate the barrier set, destroying their terrains in epic fashion. The Daemons present took cover as the effect of the explosion was like that of a bomb, ripping apart all that within the 500m radius. In the midst of all the chaos that had occurred, Yami stood proud, his opponent lying helpless on the hollowed field. "In the aftermath of the epic clash between two skilled Daemons, your winner by knockout, the Core of Fate, Yami!" The crowd went wild in excitement as the third bout had come to a befitting end. The scythe vanished into the air as the Daemons in charge placed Hikari on a stretcher and hurried her to the healing center. The crowd gave the winner a standing ovation for his dominating victory as he walked out of the battlefield successfully gaining a decisive victory for the Sophomores. "What a wonderful display of content by the audience! With a point gained by the Sophomore class, Yami has evened the scores! What will the Freshman have to say about this? I guess we have to wait and see for ourselves in the fourth bout. Gaia vs Yoko's up next!" He announced. > Akuma journeyed through a foggy valley, heading to an unknown destination. He approached the center of runway-like pavement, and it sunk him down into the depths of a concealed hideout. The air was thick with the smell of death and decay, as was evident in the endless trial of skulls and bones. The only light came from the flickering torches that illuminated the throne. As he drew closer, he saw the figure that sat upon the throne, its features shrouded in shadow. But the regalia that adorned the figure's body made it clear that this was no ordinary Daemon. He instantly bowed to acknowledge the presence of this entity. "Aye yai yai. You are looking ever so ravishing today, my lord," Akuma praised to get his attention. "Please spare me the flattery, Akuma." The Daemon's voice was cold and flat, devoid of emotion. "I can't help it, you know? You are worthy of all the praise that can be ascribed to your name." Akuma's voice was carefully neutral, his expression unreadable. "Sadly, you are proven impossible for me to please," he expressed, disheartened. "So what is it you desire that would express your content?" He asked. His gaze drifted to the corner of the dungeon, where the body of another Daemon lay. His lifeless face was eerily familiar, the exact mirror of his own. "Freshly bleached skulls for your collections?" He proposed, slinking towards the lifeless body. "I know you love the sight of newly flayed Daemons. This one's no exception, isn't that right?" he asked, his fingers trailing along the jaw of the mysterious look-alike. "Is a private showcase of my artistry what you desire?" a cruel smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. "Or perhaps a much needed dungeon makeover?" He thought out loud. "Aha!" He exclaimed, snapping his fingers as he presumably found out the key to his master's heart's content. "What about the greatest gift the universe has provided us with on this memorable day?" He asked, blissfully. "Oh? And what could that possibly be?" He curiously asked. "The chosen one, my lord," he replied. "The stars have aligned in your favor, my Lord. The chosen one has awakened!" He announced. The smirk on his lips widened as he spoke, "Sō desu ka?" The words seemed to linger in the air, taking on a life of their own. The darkness of the dungeon seemed to press in on them, closing in like a curtain of night. As the laughter of the figure echoed off the walls, it felt as though the very air had become a part of the story, bearing witness to the unfolding event. With a final, deafening cackle, the laughter grew louder and louder, until it filled the chamber with a bone-chilling roar.
