Beth lay awake most of the night while Nick slept beside her, spending much of her time watching him and analyzing the serenity that came with finally doing something to put an end to their torment. She might have failed to convince Trey to leave them alone, but confronting him—once she had settled down—felt good, like she had regained a little more control… or a lot more.
