"Without a doubt, I am a Namekian," Marcus replied with unwavering composure.
"Cousin, are you... wearing human skin?" Sophia asked in a trembling voice.
"This is just how we Namekians look!"
Hearing Marcus's definitive answer, Sophia felt slightly reassured, though her mind was still flooded with countless questions.
After thinking for a while, she finally voiced her biggest confusion.
"Cousin... what's really going on with the situation in my dreams?"
"Actually, this matter is quite complex, so I'll keep it brief," Marcus said thoughtfully. "The truth is, there are many civilizations in the universe, and we're just one of them. According to our superiors' observations, your people have been targeted by a group of space pirates—the Trisolarans.
These beings are utterly ruthless. They enjoy slaughtering all life on a planet, turning it into fertilizer, and then plundering the planet's resources."
"Now those deranged Trisolarans have spread a virus in your atmosphere. Once most of your people are dead, they'll return in a few decades to harvest everything."
Sophia's pretty face instantly turned deathly pale. "But why choose me?! You should be notifying important people, not me... Why would something like this fall on me first?"
Getting more agitated as she spoke, tears began streaming down Sophia's face.
This was terrifying! She was just an ordinary beautiful girl—why would such a monumental crisis land on her shoulders first?
Seeing her start to cry again, Marcus also looked troubled, feeling waves of discomfort in his heart.
Damn it, he wanted to know just as much why a well-built, responsible, capable ordinary handsome guy like himself had gotten stuck with this situation!
"Stop crying, Sophia," Marcus suppressed his inner frustration and tried to comfort her. "Actually, the company chose you for a reason. Your body is special—you have antibodies against the virus. As long as you stay alive, we can develop an antidote."
"Then hurry up and research it! I'll cooperate with whatever you need!" Sophia cried, extending her arm. "Or should we call the police first, cousin? You can contact them with your alien spaceship—they'll definitely believe you!"
"That's not possible right now. When I arrived, I accidentally encountered the Trisolarans. My ship was shot down and crashed—I don't even know where it landed. All my teammates are dead, and I'm the only one left.
The disaster is inevitable now. We can only take things one step at a time. Your biggest task right now is to stay alive. If you die, everyone else will be doomed along with you."
With those words, crushing pressure descended like a mountain!
Sophia's face drained of all color, her expression becoming vacant.
Seeing this, Marcus said, "You need to adjust your mindset. Many things haven't happened yet, and we can still prepare in advance. The situation might not be as bad as you think."
Perhaps due to her long-developed resilience, Sophia quickly snapped out of it. With a hoarse voice, she stammered, "Brother... I still don't understand why you came to save us..."
"It's simple—where there are bad people, there are good people. To prevent the world from being destroyed, to maintain universal peace, and to uphold the justice of love and truth, we've always been traveling throughout the universe protecting other civilizations."
"Besides, the Trisolarans have launched several attacks on Namek. For that reason alone, we can't just stand by and watch. We Namekians love peace, but those who offend Namek will be punished, no matter how far they flee!" Marcus declared boldly, though his heart grew increasingly melancholy.
He was so nervous he was about to wet himself, yet he still had to c***k jokes to help relieve someone else's stress.
But this little girl was really having a tough time too—the pressure she was bearing was no less than his own.
"It doesn't sound very peaceful..."
"We Namekians hate nitpicking the most!"
"I won't ask anymore, brother. I was wrong..." Sophia said pitifully, wiping away her tears.
Just as Marcus was about to continue speaking, a somewhat cold voice came from behind him.
"Hey you... Namekian, come with me for a moment."
Sophia stopped crying, and Marcus turned around.
A nurse in her early twenties with an unfriendly expression and a cold face had somehow appeared behind him.
Marcus exchanged a glance with Sophia before facing the nurse.
The nurse said coldly, "Come with me."
After speaking, she walked toward an open balcony area. Watching her retreating figure, Marcus steadied his nerves.
Perfect... negotiating with this nurse would serve as good practice for integrating into society.
The nurse stopped and stared at Marcus. "Are you Sophia Mitchell's family member?"
"I'm her cousin," Marcus replied calmly.
"Her mother came to see her this morning. Did you register when you came here?"
"Of course. Is there a problem?"
"That's not the issue, but that girl is severely delusional right now, and you're encouraging her fantasies. This is very detrimental to your cousin's condition!" the nurse said seriously. "You can visit her, but I hope you won't interfere with our treatment."
"Nurse, I think there's been some misunderstanding. May I ask your name?"
"Diana Johnson. What misunderstanding?"
"I raised Sophia when she was little, and we have a very close relationship. Back then, I often played role-playing games with her, and this time I'm just helping her relive those memories," Marcus paused. "I just returned from abroad and was planning to surprise her at school, but I heard from her classmates that she was hospitalized.
I can see her thinking is still quite clear. Apart from her emotions being a bit off, she doesn't seem to have any major problems. How is she really doing? Is she adapting well to life here?"
Just returned from abroad? That's quite rare.
Diana looked Marcus up and down before saying, "Her condition isn't very optimistic. She frequently has delusions and goes around telling people the end of the world is coming, asking them to prepare in advance.
But speaking of which... I do think her behavior is somewhat strange."
"Strange how?"
Diana sighed. "She's different from typical patients. Honestly, I think she seems quite normal most of the time, but the things she says are completely outrageous—as if she's actually seen the apocalypse."
Marcus rubbed his forehead with a bitter smile. "I heard from her classmates that her grades have been declining severely lately. Maybe her mother has been pushing her too hard, causing too much mental stress. She might be making these claims to justify herself. But Ms. Johnson, I have a favor to ask—I wonder if you could help?"
"What is it?" Diana looked at Marcus with confusion.
"I don't want her to continue staying here. Sophia doesn't want to be here either, and as you know, this environment will only add to her stress and interfere with her studies. My uncle is completely devoted to his daughter and definitely doesn't want her to keep staying in this place. The main issue is that my aunt disagrees... I hope you could help me. Next time her mother comes, could you say a few words to help Sophia go home with her mother?"
"Absolutely not!" Diana said firmly. "We have rules and regulations. Unless her parents insist on taking her home, we won't interfere."
"I understand completely, which is why this is just a request. How about this—let's exchange phone numbers."
As Marcus spoke, he casually pulled out his premium Samsung Galaxy and lit up the high-definition screen!
