Chapter 2 Crashing into His Car

"How about we just end this now? You take me to your master, I reject his mark, and while it might break his heart a little." I pinched my fingers together to emphasize. "Just a tiny bit. We can both move on with our lives. How does that sound?" After half an hour of negotiation, the giant wolf, who radiated an aura of sacredness, simply lay on the bed grooming its fur. I groaned in frustration, covering my face. 'Okay, I get it now. If this wolf's owner is anything like him, he must be the most insufferable person in the world. Last night, I must've been blind to end up in bed with someone like him.' "Woof, woof!" The wolf on the bed finally reacted, baring its teeth in what seemed like a threat. Its grey-blue eyes filled with irritation. "Oh, so you're not just a dumb wolf?" I smiled in a sarcastic way. "Then you must be able to talk too, right? So, can you take me to your master or what?" The wolf simply turned its head, resting its giant head on its paws, and closed its eyes, falling asleep. 'Ugh! It's showing off its arrogance from head to tail, and it makes me want to rip out its fur. But I don't have time for this nonsense right now. Noah and Ivy's engagement party was today.' I quickly got myself ready while pointing at the wolf, threatening. "You're dead meat, puppy. After I'm done with this, you're next!" Ignoring the wolf, who had somehow managed to squeeze into the passenger seat, I sped down the road, phone in hand, dialing a number I knew all too well. I even cleared my throat for dramatic effect, trying to sound as heartbroken as possible. "Claire..." "Noah, I heard you're getting engaged to Ivy Silvers. Why?" I asked, my voice dripping with hurt. The wolf beside me stiffened, its ears perking up. It looked at me in disbelief. "Claire, I still love you. Everything I'm doing is for our future. Just give me a few more years, and I'll have access to the Silvers family's fortune. We'll have everything, I promise. Just give me some time, okay?" Noah's voice was laced with sweet persuasion. 'He once treated me like I was his one and only, and now? Now he's trying to play both sides. Even now, he's still lying, claiming he loves me.' I glanced at the recording button on my phone with a mocking smile. "Really? You still love me, and you're doing this for me?" "Of course, my love." "Then can you promise me that after you get the Silvers fortune, you'll come back to me?" "Of course, darling. I've told you before, you're the one I want to spend my life with..." His sickly sweet words almost made me gag. "Alright, I believe you. But I want to attend your engagement party," I interrupted him. "What?" Noah stammered, "Claire, if you show up, Ivy will be upset..." "Claire Lytner, I knew you wouldn't leave Noah alone! You think you can come to our engagement party? Ha! Who do you think you are? You're just a loser with no wolf, a stinking w***e! So stop trying to fight me for Noah, and do us all a favor disappear, you b***h!" Ivy's vicious insults set my blood on fire. I couldn't help but laugh coldly. "You know what? The only thing that stinks is the piece of s**t you've stolen, and you must be the fly that loves eating it." "How dare you!" Ivy screeched, her voice so high-pitched it sounded like she wanted to tear me apart. But I wasn't going to give myself a headache over it. I hung up immediately. I parked the car, staring at the grand luxury estate ahead. I had no idea how I was going to sneak in. There were staff at the entrance checking invitations. 'Ivy, that i***t, even designed a password system for the invitations. How paranoid can she be?' A convoy of identical cars pulled up as I racked my brain for ideas. Several vehicles surrounded the one in the middle, and it was clear that whoever was inside was important. The door to the middle car opened, and a figure, easily over six feet tall, stepped out. For some reason, I felt like he looked in my direction. Our eyes met briefly, and I gasped. The next second, my mind suddenly blank. 'Oh, he's... impossibly strong... and, um, radiant?' I couldn't come up with a better word. My mind was screaming at me for its lack of imagination, but that was all I had. This man could make every other word related to handsome seem inadequate. Plenty of celebrities were around, and the crystal chandeliers glittered brightly, but none of them compared to his presence. His grey-blue eyes shimmered with a light that seemed to make everything else fade into the background... "Hah!" The wolf beside me let out a huff, snapping me out of my daze, and I felt my face heat up in embarrassment. Shame flooded me. 'I couldn't believe I was gawking at someone else when my supposed mate was right here.' "But can you really blame me?" I muttered under my breath. The wolf huffed again, sounding almost like it was laughing. I decided to ignore it because I noticed something crucial. The important man had no female companion, and there, tucked into his breast pocket, was an invitation. My grip tightened on the steering wheel as I slammed my foot down on the gas. With a loud crash, my car slammed into his.
