"It's you who's the betrayer, Noah Campbell. Do you realize that? You're nothing but a despicable, shameless scumbag!" I turned to face him, my voice filled with venom. "When you're the one two-timing, you have no right to tell me who I can be with! Every word coming out of your mouth is revolting! So, would you kindly shut up?"
Without waiting for his reaction, I ignored his anger, grabbed Leon's arm, and was eager to leave.
'Unfortunately, some people just don't know when to quit.'
"b***h! I'll kill you!" Ivy screamed.
I could feel the wind rush past my head, but I didn't have time to dodge. Leon's hand tightened around my arm, his gaze filled with worry, but even he couldn't move fast enough to pull me away. A sharp pain shot through my left shoulder as I was thrown back, slamming into the cold, hard wall.
The world around me grew dim, and the noise blurred into a chaotic buzz. I blinked desperately, trying to clear the liquid from my eyes. I wasn't sure if it was tears or blood.
The pain was overwhelming, and my consciousness was fading. But then, miraculously, the pain lessened, replaced by a deep sense of panic and sorrow.
I realized with a start that it wasn't my own emotions. They belonged to the White Wolf. It nudged at my body with its furry head, whining softly, licking the corners of my eyes.
Suddenly, I felt a surge of guilt. I tried to lighten the mood by saying, "I'm sorry. I didn't get a chance to break the mark. Thank you for protecting me. If I don't make it, please find someone who deserves your love."
I also wanted to say goodbye to Leon, even though I couldn't get a word out.
With shallow breaths, I looked ahead. I saw the White Wolf charge at a slightly smaller gray-white wolf through my blurry vision. Though the other wolf dodged and fought back, the White Wolf finally pinned it down and bit into its right leg.
I heard the sickening crunch as the wolf's leg gave way, and the gray-white wolf howled in agony, collapsing to the ground.
Just then, Richard shouted, "Stop!" He shifted into a powerful gray wolf and launched himself at the White Wolf.
The two wolves clashed fiercely, tearing the room apart in their battle.
A deep, burning anger surged inside me, mixing with the unbearable pain. It felt like it was consuming my very sanity.
I coughed, my body wracked with pain.
The sound drew their attention. People rushed toward me, examining my body with frantic murmurs, "Incredible, her wounds are healing rapidly."
'What did he say? My wounds are healing? I thought I was dying. That's why it stopped hurting so much...'
Someone injected me with something, and the pain and rage seemed to drift away. My soul felt as though it was floating out of my body. Everything became light and distant.
I was so tired, so ready to sleep. Just before I closed my eyes, I heard someone shout, "Stop fighting, Alpha Leon! Your mate is going to be fine."
I hadn't opened my eyes yet, but the throbbing in my forehead made me groan in pain.
Someone pressed an ice pack against my head, soothing me with gentle pressure.
I let out a relaxed sigh and instinctively moved closer to the warmth. I snuggled into whatever was radiating heat, hugging it tightly, only to realize that the soft surface beneath my cheek had turned uncomfortably hard.
"What is this? Move it away..." I grumbled in annoyance, reaching out to push whatever was poking me, hoping to fall back asleep.
A low, suppressed groan reached my ears as someone grabbed my hand, stopping my movements. Irritated by the interruption, I opened my eyes, ready to voice my complaints, only to find myself staring into a pair of calm, gray-blue eyes.
"You..." My voice caught in my throat, and my words came out in a jumble. "Are you Leon Silvers?"
His tightly pressed lips parted slightly, his voice cool and restrained. "Yes, ma'am. Now, would you kindly let go of my... little brother?"
'His what?'
I followed his gaze and, the next moment, let out a scream as I realized what I was holding. I released him as if I'd touched something filthy, springing up from the couch to the farthest corner. Desperate to put as much distance between us as possible, I scrambled away, only to feel the cool air against my exposed chest. The jacket draped over me had slipped off in my haste, revealing my tattered gown.
The dress' strap was broken, and my chest was covered in blood and debris. Worse, in my frantic attempt to escape, my dress had slipped even further down, exposing my breasts.
"Ah!" I shrieked, crossing my arms over my chest, mortified.
Leon stood swiftly, picked up the jacket from the floor, and gently wrapped it around me.
"Everything's fine now, alright?" he said, his voice steady and controlled. He deliberately looked elsewhere to calm me down.
This was beyond anything I could have imagined. I clutched the jacket tighter, curling into the corner as I sneaked a glance at him.
He sat at the far end of the couch, as far from me as possible, his legs crossed, his gaze fixed on something in the distance.
Time passed in silence, and I began to feel better.
I ran my hand over my shoulder, marveling at how smooth my skin felt. 'My wounds had completely healed. How? I hadn't awakened as a wolf, so I shouldn't have such rapid healing abilities.'
Most of the time, I acted like an ordinary human. Such severe injuries shouldn't have healed this quickly, even for a werewolf.
Unable to make sense of it, I pushed the thought aside for now and focused on the silent Leon.
He was truly perfect, the kind of man anyone expected to see on TV. His strength and grace in battle had left an impression on me.
But I still didn't understand why he had helped me.
"Why did you help me? And... why lie to them about me being your fiancée?" I awkwardly broke the silence.
"I didn't lie." Leon smiled as he stood up and handed me a stack of papers. "The one who claimed to be my fiancée was you, Ms. Lytner."
My face burned with embarrassment. I felt like my whole body was about to explode from the heat.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I just really needed to get into the banquet... If I upset you, I truly apologize, sir," I stammered, trying to make amends. "And about your car, I'll definitely take responsibility."
"I'm not upset," Leon said, placing the papers on the table in front of me. "In fact, you did me a small favor. So, would you mind signing this agreement and becoming my fiancée?"
"What?"
I thought everything I had experienced so far was ridiculous enough, but when Leon asked me to be his fiancée, it reached a whole new level of absurdity.
I gaped at him in shock, realizing only after a long pause that he wasn't joking. That was when I started shaking my head.
