Chapter Eight One of the first surprises the next morning when Joe crawled out of the tent, leaving Samuel still snoring, was that Logan already had the fire going, coffee boiling away. The missing horses were tied up with the other two. “Where did you find them?” Joe asked, yawning as he pulled on his jacket. “They came back on their own,” Logan said. He gazed across the lake, taking a sip of his hot coffee. “Didn’t hear you come into the tent last night.” Logan squinted but only shook his head. “Bedded down by the fire. It was quieter, the way you two were snoring.” Joe didn’t say anything as he watched his brother, wondering how much of that was the truth.
