The next morning, Faisal Khan sat across from Sarah in a small interrogation room, his hands cuffed to the table. He looked tired now, the confidence from the night before mostly gone.
"Tell me everything," Sarah said. "Who gave you the order to kill Adam Malik?"
Faisal was quiet for a long time. "You won't believe me."
"Try me."
"It was Richard Cole. The company's CEO." Faisal's voice was flat, almost bored. "Adam found out Richard was stealing company money through fake vendors. Millions of dollars, moved slowly over three years. Adam was going to report it to the board. Richard couldn't let that happen."
Sarah exchanged a look with David through the glass. Richard Cole was one of the most respected businessmen in the city — his face on magazine covers, his company praised in the news.
"You expect me to believe the CEO ordered a murder himself?"
"He didn't do it himself," Faisal said. "He asked me to handle it. I said no at first. Then he showed me proof he could destroy my family — old debts, my brother's fraud case, things Richard had been hiding for years to control me. I didn't have a choice."
"Everyone has a choice," Sarah said coldly. "You made yours."
Faisal looked down at the table. "The files Adam collected — the ones his sister has — they only show what I did. Richard made sure his own name stays clean in the documents. If you want proof against him, you'll need more than what you already have."
Sarah stood up and walked out of the room, her mind racing. If Faisal was telling the truth, the real danger hadn't been arrested yet. It was still sitting in a glass office somewhere in the city, probably watching the news right now.
