Chapter 4: Unexpected Bonds
Felix sat in his cold prison cell, a bitter smile playing on his lips. He leaned against the damp wall, his thoughts drifting to his children.
"Sole... Gaetana..." he muttered, shaking his head. "Never lived up to expectations. But Fina... and my boy..." His eyes gleamed with pride.
He pictured them in Ronald Fall, far to the northwest. "Entangled with the strongest Alpha's family," he mused. "That's where true power lies."
Felix's mind wandered to his long-term plans. He had been cultivating alliances and positioning his favored children for years, all in preparation for this moment. The werewolf society was a complex web of politics and power, and he had been weaving his own threads carefully.
Clenching his fist, Felix's voice dropped to a menacing growl. "You'll pay for this humiliation, Montezuma. You and your son Sigmund. Mark my words. This is just the beginning of a much larger game."
Meanwhile, in the depths of Urlong, Gaetana floated in the surreal space within the fish's belly. Her newly transformed body tingled with unfamiliar sensations.
"What system?" she asked, brow furrowed in confusion.
A childlike voice echoed around her. "You can call me the Wolf Mother."
Suddenly, Gaetana found herself standing on water, facing a small girl with an enigmatic smile.
The girl spoke, her voice carrying weight beyond her years. "We're people of pain, and your destiny aligns with my thoughts."
"What destiny? What thoughts?" Gaetana pressed, still struggling to comprehend.
Without warning, the girl vanished, only to reappear inches from Gaetana's face. Their bodies merged in a blinding explosion of light, tearing through the cloudy landscape.
As the light faded, Gaetana felt her very being transforming. Information flooded her mind, and a blue window materialized before her eyes.
After a moment of stillness, Gaetana's lips curled into a small, knowing smile. "I see," she whispered to herself. "Convert people, ensure their loyalty unto death. Then... I can harness their strength, their abilities."
Her eyes glinted with a new, dangerous light. "This changes everything."
The Wolf Mother's voice resonated in her mind. "Remember, young one, this power comes with limitations. You can only convert those willing to pledge their loyalty, and the process requires a significant amount of your own energy. Use it wisely."
Gaetana nodded, absorbing this crucial information. The system's capabilities were vast, but not unlimited. She would need to strategize carefully.
Jewel blinked awake, his gaze darting around the unfamiliar landscape. He muttered to himself, "Did I really...with someone without eyes? Those eye sockets..." He shuddered, the memory sending chills down his spine.
Despite the urge to flee, Jewel steeled himself. "A man should always own up to his mistakes," he said quietly, kneeling beside the lake. His mind raced, grappling with the bizarre situation.
Suddenly, a voice thundered in his head: "Turn around."
Jewel's eyes narrowed. "That's not right," he whispered. "The voice should echo throughout Urlong, but it's only in my mind." Shaking off his confusion, he obeyed, turning his back to the lake.
Gaetana emerged, her newly restored form a stark contrast to her previous state. Her voice carried a mix of anger and authority as she spoke. "You took advantage of me when I was at my lowest and powerless. How would you make up for that?"
Jewel remained silent for a moment, his fists clenching as he wrestled with his conscience. Finally, he spoke, his voice firm with resolve. "Since I've forced myself on you, I'll make you my Luna."
Gaetana's eyes widened, surprised by his unexpected response. She studied him carefully, her mind racing with the possibilities this situation presented.
Although Gaetana's eyes widened in surprise, she quickly composed herself. Her voice was a mixture of melancholy and coldness as she asked, "Are you sure you want this? You have a better life ahead of you than being with a girl of unknown origin, whose eye sockets were as empty as a scary skeleton."
Without hesitation, Jewel produced two tokens - one gold with an empyrean J symbol, the other golden-red with an immortal symbol. He pricked his finger, letting his blood drip onto both tokens before sending them towards Gaetana with his inner power.
"Don't be afraid," Jewel said softly. "Just put your blood on the two tokens and they will recognize you. It's not harmful, and if anything happens to you, I'll end my life on the spot."
Gaetana heard the system's voice in her mind: "Host, I've scanned the tokens and they're genuine. Nothing is wrong with them."
Nodding silently, Gaetana pricked her own finger and let her blood touch the tokens. They vanished into her consciousness.
Jewel's voice rang out, clear and decisive: "I, Jewel Waylon, accept this lady who has shared her blood and life with me as my mate." The heavens rumbled, sealing the ritual.
Gaetana sighed, "I hope you won't regret your hasty decision. You can turn around now."
As Jewel turned, his eyes widened in astonishment. Instead of the disfigured woman he expected, an otherworldly beauty stood before him. He quickly knelt on one knee, hand crossing his chest.
"I'm Jewel Waylon," he said, his voice filled with reverence. "I'll protect you with every fiber of my being if you don't dislike me. And if you wish to understand me more, I'll give you all the time possible. Just know that with me, you're safe from even the gods of heaven."
Gaetana studied him, her heart beating slightly faster. "You're quite decisive, Jewel Waylon," she said, a hint of warmth in her voice. "I suppose we have much to learn about each other."
Gaetana's voice echoed in Jewel's mind, her words a stark contrast to her ethereal appearance. "Your offer is appreciated, but don't think this erases what happened," she said, her tone firm but not unkind. "We have a long way to go before I can truly trust you."
Jewel nodded solemnly, understanding the weight of his actions. "I understand," he replied. "I'll spend every day proving myself worthy of your trust."
Gaetana's expression softened slightly. "You really don't know what you've gotten yourself into," she said, her voice tinged with both amusement and concern. "As you must have observed, I can't speak, smell, hear, or even see in the conventional sense. My perception of the world is... different now."
Jewel's expression turned thoughtful. "So that's how it is," he murmured. Then, with a determined look, he added, "It doesn't change anything. I made a vow, and I intend to keep it. We'll figure this out together."
Gaetana felt a rush of warmth at his words, unused to such dedication. She hesitated for a moment before deciding on honesty. "My name is Gaetana Deforest," she declared, "and I accept you as my mate, though we have much to work through."
Jewel's heart raced, though a nagging feeling told him he should recognize the name. Pushing the thought aside, he focused on the present. "If you face any trouble, just reveal my token, or you can reveal both tokens simultaneously," he instructed. "They will protect you temporarily. I'll make preparations to come back and serve my lady."
Gaetana nodded, touched by his devotion but still wary. "Let's leave first," she said, her voice soft but firm. "We have much to discuss and plan."
As they began to walk, Jewel bowed respectfully and followed, his mind already planning their next moves. He knew he had a long road ahead to earn Gaetana's trust, but he was determined to see it through.
As they walked, Gaetana's thoughts turned to her family and to Sole. 'I'll go back and see what's happening,' she decided silently. 'And I'll save Sole along the way. But first, I need to understand these new abilities and limitations.'
The path ahead was uncertain, filled with challenges and potential dangers. But for the first time in a long while, Gaetana felt a glimmer of hope. With her newfound powers and an unexpected ally by her side, she was ready to face whatever came next.
