Chapter #7: Finding out the Truth

1412 Words
As Sarah drove her car along the lanes on Mecha Station, few other cars passed by. It was worth noting that Mecha Station was one of the largest space stations that had left Earth for biological energy collection 5 years ago. During this time, Earth had recently discovered a new innovative way to convert light energy to ATP, Adenosine Triphosphate. This conversion of light to energy had only been seen in plants on earth, so the new innovation became a revelation for many people who needed more energy in their cells. Many new drugs were developed during this time, NX7 included. As can be inferred, the source of NX7 and these new developed drugs was the light harnessed from the our only known source, the sun. As energy demands of people skyrocketed, Earth needed more a more solid and direct source of light energy. The government pooled their resources and constructed 5 main space stations to reach the outskirts of our galaxy to provide closer access to light energy. That being quasars. Scattered amongst the outer reaches of our galaxy were quasars that could provide earth all the natural and powerful light energy needed for ATP conversion. And so, earth gathered their most skilled analysts, pilot’s, and leaders for working on these 5 space stations. Sarah could remember passing rigorous exams and tests just to apply and work for the position of a light level’s analyst. Even Keiji being as smart as he was, had a hard time with the entrance tests. The reason Sarah and Keiji had chosen to apply for such a coveted position was because it was always their dream to explore and head into space. They were explorer’s at heart and what better way to live out that dream than in space. As Sarah finally arrived at her apartment in the western quadrant of Mecha Station, she quickly got out of the car and ushered Keiji into her cabin – 2 floors up in the apartment. Keiji did a quick survey of the cabin. It was large enough for two people, but had only one bedroom. Mostly clean, the only dirty area was Sarah’s work desk in the back of the cabin. Piles of work papers could be seen stacked together, and Keiji got a twinge of nostalgia. “Damn…it’s been a while since I’ve worked…do you think I’d remember even the simple things like the conversion rates?” Keiji asked sheepishly. “Of course, bro,” Sarah assured him. “You were always smarter than me, and now that you have your memory back it should come back to you in no time.” Keiji took off his shoes and gestured to the Sarah’s work desk. “Tomorrow morning we need to discuss how to get the money we owe……but after I help you organize that table of yours,” Keiji said without being too pushy. “Sure little bro,” Sarah said. “You can sleep on the couch, I’m spent. I’m going to head to bed.” Sarah waved a small goodbye and went into her bedroom on the opposite side of the couch, closing the door quietly. ***10am, the next morning*** “Sorry for invading your space. It’s just I need to work here too now,” Keiji said as he shuffled through her papers quickly looking at them, then organizing them into a neat pile. “It’s ok. You always were the more organized one,” Sarah said as she helped him. Keiji had woken up first and made breakfast for the both them. It was the least he could do to thank her for all she had done for him. When they were finished organizing, they both sat down beside each other, with one paper in front of Sarah. As Keiji watched Sarah jot down ideas for helping them earn cash, Keiji did a quick calculation in his head. Even if miraculously, he was able to get a job within the week and start earning, it would not be enough to pay back what his sister owed. Regrettably, Keiji realized that to get them the money they needed; they might need to look into more avenues that weren’t as legit. Something that would provide them money quickly and easily. Upon thinking about there most profitable options, one came to mind. “I have an idea sis,” Keiji said. “All ears,” Sarah said as she looked him straight, giving him her full attention. “What if we play the casino at their own game….if they want their money back so badly, let’s take it from them,” Keiji said. “What do you propose?” Sarah asked. “I propose we play one of the casino games and earn back what you owe like that,” Keiji said. “There is one catch though……I’ll be playing the casino game with my ability.” “You mean use your precognition to essentially cheat at a casino game to earn money…” Sarah said. “Yup, exactly.” Keiji said with a small smile. “Well….right now it really is our only option, I owe so much. And even if I use everything in my account, it’ll be a quarter of what I owe,” Sarah said. “But do you even know how to access your ability?” “I was hoping we could figure out that out right now….” Keiji said. “Ok….do you remember what was happening when you had your vision?” Sarah asked. “Vaguely. All I remember is that I felt a tingle down my spine and I saw the vision,” Keiji said. “Maybe your ability is triggered by cold?” Sarah speculated. “It’s worth a shot,” Keiji said. Sarah then proceeded to head to kitchen and bring some cold water in a basin. Keiji then placed his hands into the basin and waited. “Nothing sis.” The siblings tried many other ways to trigger Keiji’s ability – to no avail. “Ughhhh….I give up!” Sarah yelled to herself. At that moment Keiji was surprised at the raising of her voice and accidentally blinked 3 times in sequence. Upon doing this, Keiji felt a tingle down his spine, and his vision went to black and white. He saw his sister consequently throwing the basin of cold water onto the floor. After this small vision, Keiji blinked once and his vision returned to normal – all in color again. “Sis!” Keiji said with an outstretched hand. Sarah stopped what she was about to do – which was reach for the water basin. “What is it?” Sarah said. “I saw you throw the water basin onto the floor…..were you going to?” Keiji said. “Yeah…just now…” Sarah said. “You said you saw it?” “Yeah…and I think I know how,” Keiji said. “Ok, predict what I’m going to next,” Sarah said. Keiji then tried blinking 3 times again – purposeful this time. His vision, again, went black and white and he saw his sister hold up a peace sign to him. After blinking once, his vision went back to normal again. “You were going to hold up a peace sign,” Keiji said. “Wow…..yeah…” Sarah said. “That’s kinda scary, you knew what I was about to do. How did you figure it out?” “When you yelled at yourself, I accidentally blinked 3 times. Then I saw everything in black and white. I then blinked once and my vision returned to normal,” Keiji said. “So….so sum it up…blink 3 times and you see your vision of the future. Then blink once to return to normal.” Sarah said. “Seems like it.” Keiji said. “Let’s practice and make sure…” Sarah said who proceeded to ask Keiji a wealth of questions and predict her next moves, all of which he got correctly.
