Chapter #5: I Saw You Die

582 Words
Heading out of the hospital now, Keiji and Sarah walked towards the parking lot. The light from the hospital faded very quickly and Sarah stopped to take out a flashlight from her purse. “Damn, you have everything in that purse Sis,” Keiji said with a smile. “Better to be prepared,” Sarah said. Taking it out now they continued walking. Arriving at the parking lot now, Keiji felt a tingle down his spine. As he blinked, his vision of what was in front of him disappeared. In that instant, everything became black and white. He saw Sarah walking in front of him – hazily. As she walked, a car drove into the parking lot and subsequently ran her over. Keiji, shocked and in despair tried to shout but to no avail. The hazy black and white image he was seeing disappeared as he blinked a second time. “What was that?” Keiji said as he stopped walking. “Sarah did you see that?....” However, Sarah was already too far for her to hear him. He decided to warn her; as he could not shake the feeling something bad was about to happen. “SARAH! LOOKOUT!” Sarah turned and looked at Keiji. Just as she did a car drove into the parking lot and tried to run her over. Seeing the car, she ran back to Keiji, and the car missed its mark. A couple of seconds later, 3 men exited the car with guns and trained them on Keiji and Sarah. One of them spoke. “Ms Duranheim, you owe the casino a lot of money. We’re here to collect. Either your dead body or the money. Whichever comes first,” said the man on the farthest left. “Do you have what you owe or not?” “I…I…” said Sarah who could barely get a word out and was gripped with fear. “She doesn’t, but I do,” Keiji said as he walked to stand between Sarah and the gunman. “…And who are you?” said the same gunman. “I’m her brother. Keiji. I’m a fourth-floor light levels analyzer and have the money she owes. Give us a week and I can collect it from my account,” Keiji said trying to feint courage. “…..You have a week,” said the gunman who lowered his gun. “If you do not have it by then and meet us here a week from now, at 9:00pm, we will kill both of you.” “Ok,” Keiji said who stayed in between them and Sarah. The gunmen got back into the car and drove off. Both Keiji and Sarah let out a breath they were holding in. “Thanks, little bro,” Sarah said as hugged him quickly. “……But you don’t have the money do you?” “I don’t,” Keiji said. “We’re going to have to come up with something in a week’s time…..you owe that much?” “It was too keep you in the hospital Keiji. And I’m not the best gambler,” Sarah lamented. “It’s ok, I get it,” Keiji said. “Besides that…there’s something else I need to tell you. I saw you die….”
