Chapter 2 Just a year ago… “Come on kids it’s bedtime. I have to work early tomorrow.” Anna called as she climbed the stairs, tripping on a doll at the top.  “Mommy, be careful!! Lacy is the Queen.” Christine said in a tone that portrayed royalty, she grabbed the doll and skipped into the room she shared with her brother.  Anna smiled, shaking her head as she headed followed the small girl into the room. Christine was so full of imagination and it reminded Anna of her childhood self. The Kids room was dark other than the TV, Matthew was lounging on his bed engrossed in some show about mechanics.  “Mom, can I finish this show, it’s my favorite. They are going to use the robots to detonate a rocket.” He asked as he moved to get under his blankets.  “Sure, if you guys keep it down and no fighting. Come on lil bit.” Ann helped Christine climb into her blankets, tucking the bright pink princess comforter around her daughter. “Mommy, can we eat eggs for breakfast?” Christine yawned, her bright brown eyes heavy with sleepiness.  “Only if you help.” Ann bargained, smiling as Christine sat up from her blankets for another hug. “Goodnight, sleep sweet.” “Night mom, now go they are about to set off the rocket.” Matthew said, Ann laughed and went to the door. “I love you guys, always.” Ann said, both were staring at the robots on TV so she closed the door to they room.  Crossing the hall she entered her own room, changed into an over sized t-shirt and climbed into her own bed. Work would come early, no need to stay up late thinking about the hand life had dealt her. “Mom!! Wake up!” Christine’s voice broke the blackness of sleep for Ann, it felt like she had only just fallen asleep. “Christine its too early, go back to….ouch!!!” Ann groaned as Christine jumped on her, the childs knees catching her in the back. She never thought that day starting out so normal would end the way it did. Work and school went by as usual nothing seemed out of the ordinary in their lives. The news flashes that night caught Ann’s attention, everything was changing.  “Mom, why are you awake?” Christine asked standing outside the blanket fort in her pink troll nightgown. “I’m just watching the news, go back to sleep.” Ann said, her eyes fixed on the television.  The kids had built a blanket fort across most of the living room so Ann had let them sleep in it. The news had been running breaking alerts all afternoon, the hospital in Dallas had contacted the CDC for an Ebola outbreak. Over the afternoon it had escalated from being a scary Ebola case to an outbreak of a new strand that scientist claim to have never seen before.  ***Breaking News*** The 2014 Ebola case in Dallas was nothing in comparison to the strand that is wreaking havoc in the same location. Today in 2018 just a mere four years from the ebola scare that rocked local and national news we return to ground zero, the same hospital reports not just one but ten cases in under 24 hours. A strand of Ebola that appears to be traveling at and extremely rapid rate, there has been no commit from the CDC or local Government officials. Stay tuned for updates as they are released.
