Lyssandra’s POV
The air was thick with smoke, suffocating her with every breath she took
The wooden beams cracked as flames devoured what had once been called home, crawling up the walls viciously.
“Lyss!! Move” Her brother yelled out, hand clasped tightly round her wrists, he dragged her through the burning doorway
Her tears felt hot as she wrestled with her brother
“No! We can’t leave Mum and Dad!”
Her gaze fixed on the gruesome scene outside.
Wolves howled and snarled, her parents were surrounded by six masked men and four hulking wolves
The sound of steel against steel clashing.
Mother’s scream cut the chaos for one brief moment then quietened.
“Mom- !”
“No!” Her brother yanked her back, away from the sight of her mother’s head rolling on the floor
An explosion of heat burst behind them causing another beam to fall
He shoved open a hidden panel behind the family portrait, the smiles lighting up their faces seemed to mock her now as the flames licked its way up the picture, a secret passage yawned open
“Hurry, come on!”
But Lys couldn’t move because her gaze was fixed on her father’s body mangled to pieces by rogue wolves.
*******
I jerked upright, heart beating erratically even as I forced in a mouthful of air.
I haven’t had an episode in months, yet after a near death experience I got the most brutal of them all.
Not surprised.
My hands slid to my hip for my knife and - nothing?
I glanced down and I was definitely no longer wearing my tunic and leather pants.
In its place was a …. Soft cotton ish white dress.
Who dresses like this?
Scratch that, what kind of p*****t dresses a stranger?
My eye caught the pink colored vanity mirror on the side of the bed. A really, really, soft rainbow colored bed.
The vanity was filled with a hair brush, salves and hair clips.
Judging from the questionable colors used in decorating this room
It must either be for a delinquent teenage girl with adolescent troubles
or a Psychotic woman experiencing a mid-life crisis.
Deciding not to wait for my helper, I steadily placed my feet on the floor, gingerly pacing about the room to test my strength.
I knew my body would have recovered, it always did.
I never questioned why because it was one of my many strengths.
And I needed all my strength to find the bastard who tried to kill Ruin.
The only thing was -
Where was I?
Light footsteps thudded in my direction.
Reaching for the chopsticks on the side table I slid behind the door, the pointed edge of the sticks jutting out a little more.
Off tune humming drew nearer and my grip tightened.
The door pushed open, shielding me from being seen by the intruder
A slim figure draped in an oversized white coat leaned to drop the tray she held.
Her gaze landed on the bed, her eyes widened, mouth ready to shout but my arm held her throat, weapon inches from her sweaty face.
Her body stiffened “ Who are you?”
My arm tightened, “ I ask the questions here blondie”
She jerked her head in response, her face turning red.
With an eye roll I relaxed my hold
Pitiful.
“Now, I will release you and you will not attempt to do anything stupid. You will answer my questions….,”
I glanced down at the tag on her oversized white coat
“Grace is it?”
She nodded with a whimper.
I released her, she bent over coughing and rubbing her neck.
I took my seat on the bed and waited till she was done with her theatrics.
“ Your face is no longer red, you can stop pretending now”
With a glare, she stood upright, her face a mixture of false bravado and confusion as she folded her arms across her chest.
“Who are you? You are not supposed to be this agile as a human after the state you were in”
“You’re a mouthy one, aren’t you?” I asked, as I caressed the sharp edge of the chopstick gently.
Her feet moved back a bit “Look, I don’t know what you want from me but I know you must be confused, sad and missing your family. The truth is, you just washed up to our Pack’s rockside and would have died if we hadn’t brought you back here to be treated”
I coughed out a scoff “ Yeah, my family must really miss me”
If my hunch was right, then I truly had no family and they would pay with their blood.
“Where am I?” I gritted out
Her eyes lit up and she smiled “You’re in the safest place in the world, BloodMoon Pack”
BloodMoon…..
The Pack I was assigned to kill?
My discomfort must have shown on my face.
Still, it was either she has selective amnesia or she just didn’t value her life or maybe she was just dumb cause she hurriedly sat next to me and held my hand.
“ Don’t be scared. The rumors are definitely not true. We don’t kill rogues for fun and definitely not humans” she said, her nose scrunched up as if the mere thought was disgusting.
I disliked when people touched me, most of all, strangers.
It would be so easy to snap her slim neck in half or break the fingers clinging onto my hands but the concern in her eyes was foreign and strangely comforting.
It was annoying. I pulled my hands away from her grip and stood.
“Where are my clothes?”
Still seated, she clasped her hands together, her lips pressed together
“I’m afraid, we couldn’t do much for your clothes.”
I nodded, “Did any of my knives survive?”
Brown eyes grew as wide as saucers, she stuttered “ Kn- knives?”
This was going to be bothersome. I was in a dangerous position with no form of protection.
My nearest supply was miles away from here yet my target was metres away from me.
“ I need to leave”
“What! You can’t just leave,” she exclaimed, her eyes frantic as she blocked the entrance with her tiny figure.
“Why not, Grace? As you can see, I am fine and quite the busy bee”
Finally, I could put the chopstick to good use, my temper was not exactly fine and she was getting ridiculously annoying.
She breathed out, cheeks slightly pink, her eyes holding my gaze
“Because my Alpha is on his way here”
