Elijah's pov
One month earlier….
The room was rowdy and noisy as everyone wanted to speak at the same time. I sat on a sofa, legs crossed and face ice cold. Honestly, everyone in the family knew that's how I always kept my face so I don't give a f**k.
I sat staring as everyone wanted to voice their opinion. The so called family meeting was a chaos as it has always been, shouting relatives, e.t.c
Jack just announced his wedding to Lucy and his pompous mother and two sisters were not willing to accept a ‘poor secretary’ as Jack's wife.
My eyes strode over to Lucy sitting timidly beside Jack and Hannah and I scoffed a little. “Who brings their mistress to a family meeting?” I muttered to myself.
“What do you think Elijah?” Old man Joe, my father's brother suddenly asked in a loud voice, turning to me.
The whole living room instantly fell silent like a switch was flipped. I smirked a little and look straight at Jack, who recoiled in fear at my deadly gaze.
“It's not my business” I slowly replied, as if I were counting my words.
Someone hissed and everyone began to murmur to each other.
“None of your business? No wonder you're not still married” Celia, Jack's mother mocked.
“Don't talk to my son in that manner!” My mum immediately fired back, standing up from her seat.
Celia rolled her eyes, fully ready for trouble. “And what can a mistress do to me?” She continued.
If there was anything that hurt my mother, it was being called a mistress. And Celia takes delight in that misery.
My father, Mr Wilmore married my mother at old age when Jack's father was about thirty years old. Then she had me, five years before Jack was born.
Celia always called my mom a mistress despite my father married her legally. They always fought like cat and rat everytime.
“You should channel your energy towards disciplining your son who doesn't know what he wants in life” I coldly replied Celia, leaving her tongue tied.
She stared at her son for help, but he shrunk back like a withered plant.
“You can't talk to my mother like that!” Lydia fired at me, she was the most hot tempered of Celia children and the one who hissed earlier.
My gaze slowly moved to her and a hint of fear crossed her eyes.
“You need to know your place. Carry on with your plans for the wedding, I don't have anything to say to any of you” I said and tried to walk away.
“Elijah! Don't feel too pompous because your company is more successful than the family business now!” Old man Joe shouted after me, still trying to stir everyone up.
“How’s that a concern of yours?” I shot back rudely and left him tongue tied too.
I walked into my car and drove off away. But my mind couldn't leave her at all. Those soft innocent eyes, pale white skin, pink full lips, ample boobs.. jeezz.
I unbuttoned my white long sleeve, feeling severe heat internally despite the air conditioning in the car. Why does my system always react strangely to that woman? She's going to be Jack's wife and I can never stand a chance.
“She quite unfortunate though” I laughed, thinking of how malicious Jack's family is.
After getting to one of my residential mansion, I tried to rest but my phone rang, jolting me.
It was from my father. Although we weren't really close after he gave all his inheritance to Jack's father, I still picked his call.
“I heard your company successfully completed the invention of the lastest ai model ‘Tela 006’. Please, partner with your nephew's company and share the ownership right with them, cash flow is very tight right now and this will go a long way” my father humbly said and I almost laughed.
When he was giving out his company, he said I was incompetent to run it. But after I've made something of myself, I'm now the messiah.
I wanted to say no, but a picture of Lucy's eyes flashed through my mind and my heart soften.
“Okay, I'll help promote his company and partner with them, but I'm not sharing my ownership rights because they contributed nothing to the project” I replied.
“But Elijah, you….” The old man tried to argue but I hung up.
The next day, I headed to the Wilmore group but on my way in, someone bumped into me, spilling coffee on my limited edition suit.
It was Lucy, and standing very close to her, I felt my airspace suddenly block and my body system began to act up. If she wasn't Jack's fiance, I'll….
“I'm so sorry please” I she quickly apologized, trying to help me wipe my suit but i seized her hand mid air before I lose control.
“Don't worry” I managed to say.
“Thank- thank.. you” she stammered, clearly confused at my kindness as I let go of her. If only she knew her impact on me.
Unable to resist, I leaned closer and bent to her height till our faces were close to each other.
“You're Jack's fiancee?” i casually asked in a cold voice, trying to hide my spiraling emotions.
“Y..yes.” she stammered a reply and quickly turned away, sprinting into Jack's office like a chased rabbit. I laughed at her funny behavior and my mood lightened.
Throughout my discussion with Jack, I knew he was walking on eggshells, but seeing I was in a good mood, he loosened up a bit and gave me a warm handshake and a wedding invitation card before I left.
On the day of the wedding, I unconsciously paid attention to my dressing and even fired two maids for not being able to find a proper suit.
“What is going on with me?” I sighed heavily, and ran my hand through my hair. Eventually, I settled on a simple suit and headed to the venue.
After being led to a seat, I looked towards the stage and saw the person Jack was exchanging vows with wasn't Lucy, but Hannah.
“A boy will always remain a boy even if he has the body of a man” I missed to myself. So the luxurious wedding convoy outside was obviously used to transport Hannah to the venue.
After watching their performance for close to half an hour, I felt disgusted and wanted to leave but just then, Lucy appeared in the doorway.
“Although her gown wasn't as expensive as Hannah's, she still looked like an angel in it. Pure, innocent, beautiful” I couldn't help thinking to myself as she slowly walked down the aisle with her father.
As they exchanged vows, I felt myself tense again as she suddenly looked straight at me.
“Wtf.. is she looking at me that way?” My heart did a funny dance but I didn't change my expression.
Jack annoyingly snapped at her and she looked away. I couldn't help but swore at him in my mind. As he kissed her, I couldn't take it anymore and quickly walked out of the hall into my car to calm down.
But few minutes later, I saw Jack hurry out with Hannah in his arms and I knew he had abandoned Lucy for Hannah again. Always. He doesn't know that the most precious thing that has ever happened to him was Lucy loving him unconditionally.
As I saw Lucy's pitifully figure leaving the hall, I got down from my car and walked up to her.
“Hope you made the right choice” was all I could say before my voice trembles in front of her. She looked stunned but those eyes almost made me go crazy. I swallowed strode towards my waiting car with long strides.
